An average movie

Posted : 5 years, 1 month ago on 31 March 2019 07:20

I wasn't really sure what to expect from this flick but, after watching 'Focus' a couple of days ago, I was quite eager to watch another movie starring Margot Robbie and this one was available on Netflix so I thought I might as well check it out. Well, to be honest, I didn't care much for the damned thing after all. I mean, it was rather well made and there was a nice cast involved but, by now, I have seen my share of WWII dramas and this one turned out to be just too generic and predictable. Concerning the cast, it was probably the best thing about this movie (Michelle Williams, Kristin Scott Thomas, Matthias Schoenaerts, Margot Robbie, Ruth Wilson, Sam Riley, Alexandra Maria Lara, Lambert Wilson) but, unfortunately, all their characters were barely developed. As a result, even the main character was barely interesting to me. The fact that they used also so much voice-over to tell her thoughts and feelings was also pretty weak. Eventually, the only one who still managed to do something interesting with his character was Matthias Schoenaerts. Indeed, with no voice-over whatsoever, with a still rather stereotypical character, he still managed to be quite spellbinding to behold. Anyway, to conclude, it seems that the story of how the book this movie was based on came out was actually more interesting than the story itself but, in spite of ifs flaws, I still think it is worth a look though, especially if you like the genre.
