An average movie

Posted : 9 years, 4 months ago on 24 December 2014 01:29

Honestly, it has been a while since I have seen this flick and I should probably re-watch it at some point to make up my mind for good about the whole thing. First of all, you can say whatever you want about Ron Howard but most of the movies he made in the 80’s actually turned out to be some classics (with the notable exception of the abysmal ‘Gung Ho’) and this movie is definitely a fine example. I mean, even though it was actually pretty cheesy, it was still a success and it pretty much launched Ron Howard's and Tom Hanks’ careers (they will eventually work back together 10 years later with ‘Apollo 13’ and again 10 years later with ‘The Da Vinci Code’). Indeed, for Hanks, it was his first starring role and for a decade long, he would play similar character in similar comedies until ‘Philadephia’ would make him overnight an Oscar winner and a really respected dramatic actor, a status he has never lost ever since. To be honest, like I said before it has been ages since I saw this flick so I should give another shot at some point but it remains a rather harmless and fairly entertaining fantasy comedy and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

A decent entertainment

'Splash' was a 1980s movie that made Tom Hanks famous before he became a huge star for doing 'Big' and this flick was also good

Although it isn't as good as 'Big', 'Splash' is a decent entertainment, an underrated movie which has an interesting story and a very good cast (Tom Hanks, Daryl Hannah, Eugene Levy, John Candy)

Allen Bauer thought he'd never find the right woman...he was definitely only half wrong, a good crossover between 'The Little Mermaid' and 'The Blue Lagoon', 'Splash' is definitely a fish out of water comedy

Candy & Hanks!

For what it's worth, it isn't bad. I usually can't stand mawkish films. Let alone a 'Romance' film, but this wasn't too bad, after all, the legendary John Candy is here, Tom Hanks too! That woman from Blade Runner, and put it all together and it ain't all that bad. I would call it a 'time-passer' which is my way of saying, it's just to pass time more than anything, but in the end, it wasn't an awful film. It didn't make me 'Laugh out Loud' though, but it was more of a sweet film. Oh, wait I hate those too! Doh! So, it really goes to show, you can make exceptions for pretty much anything.

Btw, you have to admit, Hanks looks like a pimp in that poster!

A spectacular romantic comedy - they don't make them like this anymore.
Daryl Hannah, John Candy and Tom Hanks are simply hilarious.
