An average movie

Honestly, it has been a while since I have seen this flick but I will probably re-watch it at some point. Nowadays, the box-office has drastically changed. You either get some huge blockbusters involving super-heros, YA adaptations, some very well know franchises or some very cheap indie features and that's basically it and many people involved in the industry find it actually rather worrying. Anyway, 20 years ago, the situation was quite different and you could release a heist feature like this one with a great cast (Robert Redford, Sidney Poitier, David Strathairn, Dan Aykroyd, River Phoenix, Ben Kingsley) and you could still reach a decent success. To be honest, even though I thought it was quite enjoyable and entertaining. I never thought it was actually really amazing. In my opinion, the tone is just too light to take the whole thing seriously, I never believed one second that those guys were actually able to do what the hell they were supposed to pull here and since I didn't take it seriously, then it was rather difficult to really care about the characters of what they are going through. Still, there is no doubt that this team was really charismatic, I had a good time watching this and it is definitely worth a look.

Redford, Aykroyd, Phoenix, Strathairn and Poitier are Sneakers: they "sneak" into computers.
Martin (Robert Redford) gets a visit from two allegedly NSA employees who want him and his team to retrieve a black box. It soon is evident that these men are not who they are, and soon enough Martin will find an old friend (Ben Kingsley) is behind all his latest sneak.
Will the team get through with the plan? Will everyone make it?

A great film about computer hacking, cryptography, decoding,

A great cast. I love everyone in this movie! Other actors worth mentioning: McDonnell as Liz is brilliant and Stephen Tobolowski is great for his role.
A wonderful score. Perfect. Really.
And most of all, a wonderful, clever script that delivers great humor (some of those lines are memorable), good action scenes, and references to many events and situations that has the viewer thinking. (Listen to some of Kingsley's comments about the world war and what's important...)

Enjoy.

(This is one of the best films on my list. I always watch it, at least 4 times a year. One of the few films that never bore me.)
