I remember it very well, before this movie was released, I thought it looked really awesome, I was quite eager to check it out and I even watched it in the movie theater when it was released. On top of that, it seemed to be a perfect project for Joe Dante, since he was the guy who came up with those awesome Gremlins. Eventually, even though it wasn’t really a flop, it wasn't really a big success at the box-office and it received only some mixed reviews. The main issue is that the tone never really felt right. Indeed, sometimes, it seems to be a rather harmless family feature but, at some other moments, it gets quite darker and this back-and-forth was pretty awkward. Obviously, it is a reminder of ‘Gremlins’ which was quite the opposite, a rather dark feature which dared to be a little bit scary for the young kids and it was completely confident about how far it wanted to go in this direction while this new effort wasn’t really convincing. On top of that, even though those toys looked really good, they did lack some personality. Stil, all in all, I thought it was a decent watch and it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
