Obviously, the main reason I wanted to check this movie was for its controversial reputation. Basically, it was supposed to be one of the most sexually explicit mainstream movies ever made and I can guarantee you that it does really deserve its reputation. Indeed, right from the very beginning, you get several sex acts going from masturbation, to straight sex, gay sex and even some SM. At the end of the scene, you even get several ejaculations, even a guy ejaculating in his own mouth which was something I seriously didn't expect. So, you have been warned and if you still want to watch it, at least, you know what kind of trip it is. To be honest, even though there were a lot of gay sex, probably more than 50%, I think the explicit scenes were actually very well done and they didn't really make me feel uncomfortable, at least, not too much. Concerning the rest of the movie, I think the Shortbus club was quite fascinating and the group of characters involved were also interesting. Unfortunately, the running time was rather short (just above 90 mins) , I think there were just too many characters and, to be honest, some of their stories were either far-fetched or rather half-baked. Anyway, to conclude, for an experimental feature, I thought it was not bad, I guess it is worth a look, at least, if you are into this kind of features, otherwise you should definitely avoid it.

Just merely thinking about this movie is a facepalm ready to happen. I cannot believe they actually were this mentally retarded to make this. And no, I am not using the word 'Retarded' as a cliché in place of a better word. This movie is seriously retarded.

To put in blunt terms the movie starts off with a guy jizzing in his own mouth, a dude masturbating while getting slapped by an ugly STD ridden whore, and a generic looking pornstar banging a so-called Canadian-Chinese. This is all shown in graphic details by the way (at least in the unrated version).

Alright so I know what you're thinking: "If the plot is good then it does not matter."

Well that's the problem. The plot is HORRIBLE. I think I could head to my local Rehabilitation home, gather some 'special' kids, and we could create a better movie plot.

The plot is consistent of three things: Homosexuality, Sex (in general), and relationships. None of these things are touched upon with great depth, instead they are all explained by dry humor and stupidity. To give an example there is a homosexual man who is not satisfied with one gay pal, so he needs to get another one so he can make a threesome of men playing The Star-Spangled Banner in each others anuses(*MASSIVE FACEPALM*). Another example is a woman can not get an orgasm from her husband, so she decides to hang with a female tramp to teach her how to ejaculate (Really...).

So the creators probably realized in some point in time that this was incredibly dumb, so they added in extra sex so people would buy it. Which by the way most is gay sex.

For other aspects:

The music did not match the setting.

The acting did not just suck, it reeked of something unfathomable.

The presentation was horrid as I explained earlier.

And with all of this combined you have a big pile of worthless dung that isn't fit to be called a pornographic film.

I give it a 1/10 without question.

The movie "Shortbus" tries really hard to be classy. Unfortunately, there is no class in watching several explicit homosexual sex scenes over and over again. Hell, even the very few heterosexual scenes were just uncalled for.

Okay, putting all this aside, the plot focuses on a young female Asian sex councilor who can't achieve an orgasm. Without going into to much detail it's shallow and shows that all people care about are themselves and heaven forbid they can put love in front of sex.

The actors are a joke. In fact, I've seen porn actors more serious about there roles then this. Stay away from this especially if you are a straight male. There is no enjoyment in watching a guy shoot jizz into his own mouth.

Go beyond the sex scenes of this film, and you will see people with emotions, dealing with their difficulties and hardships. Sex does not come cheap. Sex tells the pain people who are having sex face.

I'm not sure I agree with either of the previous reviews. Yes, there is a lot of sex in this movie and most of it only detracts from what little plot there is. It's just there to make you uncomfortable, and if you thought this was Red Shoe Diaries you are wrong. This is not a movie to arouse you. I assume it is suppose to make you uncomfortable, laugh, think and maybe be interested in the people. But it did all those things in such little doses that it didn't work. It was just weird and a uninteresting.

Worth watching just for the animation at the opening sequence.
