One of my favourites of 2010

Posted : 2 years, 1 month ago on 24 March 2022 07:12

I really enjoyed Scott Pilgrim vs.The World, and consider it one of my favourites of the year if not the best. The film is shot in a unique way and looks wonderful and the music is cool with lots of energy. Edgar Wright does a superb job directing the film, the film is filled with humour and good humour at that, it goes at a cracking pace and is compelling throughout and the characters are appealing. The acting is great, Michael Cera gives one of his better performances(only his performance on the brilliant sit-com Arrested Development is better in my opinion) and he is well supported by some very talented co-stars.

Overall, a great movie and one of my personal favourites of its year so far. 9/10 Bethany Cox

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World review

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World review

I watched Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World a few years ago. My favorite character was Wallace Wells because he was hilarious! He made me laugh. However, the scenery was okay and the other actors were a little bit overrated to me. So, I give this movie a 7.5 rating.

A very good movie

I wasn't sure what to expect from this movie but I was really eager to check it out anyway. I have to admit that I was already sold with the 8 bit Universal logo. And I think that was the main issue with this flick. Basically, it was made for a very speficic audience and other people wouldn't care for it, I'm afraid. I mean, if you have never been into gaming specifically the older games from the 80's and the 90's or if you never cared for those, all the video games references will be lost on you and they might even bother you. As far as I was concerned, I thought it was awesome though. But it didn't stop there, no, that was just the beginning... I had never seen a movie with such an ADHD syndrome and it is also something that can wear you down pretty quickly but, once again, for me, it made the whole thing even more appealing. Of course, the characters were really cartoony but most of them were pretty funny and the whole thing just looked awesome. Personally, I had so much fun watching this and I actually enjoyed it more than 'Kick-Ass' which was released the same year. Anyway, to conclude, even though it is absolutely an acquired taste, I really enjoyed it and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you are interested in a ADHD gaming obsessed movie.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World review

Posted : 12 years, 2 months ago on 21 February 2012 11:08

This, I won't lie, was one of the very few films I'd promised myself I would never watch (reasons not telling) but I broke it by reading a few reviews. Remember kids: Don't judge a book by it's cover and never, EVER judge a movie by it's review. I'm not saying it was a disappointment, although it does kinda tread somewhere around that line, but it wasn't exactly a great movie either. I guess I never really did like much of Edgar Wright's works (bar Hot Fuzz, which definitely was funny)... Scott Pilgrim is one of the more recent movies which is based on a graphic novel / comic I've never read, so my views may be a little different. It was quite innovative, I'm giving it that, but also it was quite shallow and dull in places, especially the parts concerning Scott's first outing with Ramona, the whole scene concerning Todd Ingram (although the Battle of the Bass was quite good) and especially the part concerning Lucas Lee which was just a pretty good moment and Chris Evans gave a pretty good performance. Other than that, the cinematography was unique (reminded me a little of Fight Club) and the whole comic-book outlook was also good but the characters were not well-defined, at least to me. The only great performance was by Kieren Culkin as Wallace Wells and somewhat decent by Michael Cera as the titular character... I guess I'm not too much exposed to him to call him a good actor so I will just leave at that.

Anyhow, I saw Kick-Ass yesterday, a film almost on the same vein, and I have to say I liked that one better although I really enjoyed the cinematography on this one. My final verdict: A film solely for comic book fans and/or fans of Michael Sera but as for others, they may find it dull in places!

6.0/10

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World review

'Scott Pilgrim vs. the World' was executed from a graphic novel to a film very nicely but didn't make it a better film. The movie was great but from comic to movie really didn't make it any better although it probably wasn't intended to make it better. This film exceeded all of my expectations and actually surprised me that a comic like this type could be made into a movie so nicely done. I immediately picked up the graphic novels and it explained a huge amount of references that never got displayed in this movie. I really really liked Michael Cera's performance in this and he continues to be exceptional. The film's tagline "An epic of epic epicness" really defines the film for what it is. It was funny, intense, and serious while it has it's own style of a film itself. 'Scott Pilgrim' had it's own type of humour, the intense fight scenes that were really fun to watch and see the creativity of the authors point of view. This is a fun movie and must see.

Lost & Confused

Posted : 12 years, 11 months ago on 11 June 2011 03:38

Lost and Confused. Thats the way I felt watching this movie. I've been hearing good things about this movie so I decided to watch it tonight on cable. You know how after you see a movie and you say to yourself "Thank God I didn't waste money on a ticket" Well thats what I was saying after watching this. I couldnt pin point what exactly I didn't like about it, but there was just something not right with the movie. I just didnt like it. Michael Cera was aweful. He reminds me of Ben Stiller and Wil Ferrel. You know the same damn character in every movie they do. If haven't seen it I'll leave it up to you, but if afyrt you watch it and you're saying "WTF?" you cant say I didnt warn you.

Random, but good

Posted : 12 years, 11 months ago on 1 June 2011 04:20

"I gotta go pee on her." This was random, but it was good. At first it was turning into your same old teen movie, but then the girl comes and everything explodes. The effects start to come in and everything finally falls into place. It was funny, the fight scenes were great everyone did a decent job with acting and it ended up being a good movie. The writing was very good, a lot of quotable lines. It seemed that Michael Cera at some points couldn't really sell any of the writing but at some points could. Chris Evans was great, trying to act but also acting, you know what I mean when you watch it. Mary Elizabeth Winstead was also good and could defiantly sell the writing. I must also say that Jason Schwartzman was actually pretty funny. It reminded me at certain points of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind. With Mary Elizabeth's hair the sometimes random parts, and the snow. It all seemed like it was like that but for teens. Of course it was different. So as I rap up it was a good movie, with some cool effects with some very quotable lines, no bad acting except Michael Cera in a few parts, if your into fighting and effects no reason why you wouldn't like this. Still waiting to see a really great movie, haven't seen one since I watched Howl

Unique movie, fun. Love story a bit strange, but the characters are fun to watch.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World review

Going into this film, I had no idea what it was about..only that annoying Mary Winstead was in it and that it's the latest film to see. Skeptical I was, yet this film captivated me the whole time without stopping. If you hate Michael Cera (you're a moron), then don't watch this film. He plays, for the most part, his usual roles and how he speaks etc. He adds pizazz to it and never seizes to crack me up. The crap they make fun of is brilliant and quite original. The CGi for the action scenes in this film, are actually amazing! I hate CGI, yet I loved it in this film. Every role was superb and went well together. Can't wait to buy this film and continue to laugh.

Rating: 8.9/10
