An average movie

Posted : 3 years, 3 months ago on 15 January 2021 09:28

To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of this franchise but since all the instalments were made available by my TV provider, I thought I might as well check them out. Well, at least, I have to admit that it wasn’t much worse than the previous instalment but it wasn’t much better either. Once again, they managed to bring back John Kramer A.K.A Jigsaw with a few flashback scenes but, at least, it didn’t take half of the running time like it did with ‘Saw V’. However, Mark Hoffman remains such an underwhelming and unconvincing antagonist (and I’m afraid they didn’t manage to really kill him off at the end of this flick). On the other hand, I did like the fact that, with each new sequel, they gave more screentime to Jill Tuck and, even though Betsy Russell is not exactly a great actress, at least, she was way more charismatic than Costas Snooze Mandylor and I wish she was the one who took over Jigsaw’s work. There was another thing that really bothered me though and it was the ridiculous number of victims in the central ‘game’. Indeed, every Saw movie has some kind of game involving several players. Of course, it is always convoluted and pretty much unbelievable that someone could set this up but this movie did reach some new heights of ridiculousness by having around 15 people involved. Seriously, how can you explain that Mark Hoffman, a guy with a full time job as a police officer, would manage to build this up and kidnap a dozen of people apparently all on his own? There is also the fact that everything is supposed to be happening within a few hours. That’s probably the thing that annoys me the most, the fact that they want us to believe that Jigsaw is super smart but everything happening in this franchise is idiotically impossible. Anyway, to conclude, at least, I have to admit that it was still watchable but I’m glad I’m almost done with this franchise.

Saw VI review

"Remember, don't trust the one who saves you."

And so, even after the death of John Kramer aka Jigsaw, immoral people have met their bloody demise and/or experienced grisly torture. The reason? Detective Hoffman, the first of Jigsaw's apprentices (the other being the deceased Amanda Young) has taken over the reins of his mentor and has continued playing cruel and sadistic games meant to teach people a very important lesson: never take advantage of the life you lead. He isn't the only one playing a game, however; John's ex-wife, Jill, has been given a box containing six envelopes which contain information about six people who will be the unwilling participants of the next game. They include a high ranking official of the insurance company who refused to give John funding to see a doctor in Norway who could possibly extend his life, a nosy reporter bent on writing a scandalous expose about John by trying to get an interview with Jill, and a mother and son who were connected to the insurance company.
More bloody than the last five, but, if you won't cheat and take a peek at the ending, there is a huge twist at the end that would make you go "WTFH?!" :)))))) After the big twist was revealed, I fully appreciated the genius of Jigsaw as well as the screenwriters with the way they carefully thought of every scene and event so that they intertwined with each other. Those who describe the Saw series as meaningless and not thought of are deluded; they cannot accept the fact that something that shows people being tortured actually has a reason behind it: teaching people a lesson on how to live their lives properly.
One quote which I will never, ever forget that I took from watching the six Saw movies: "Some people are so ungrateful to be alive. But not you. Not anymore." That sums up the philosophy behind the series: valuing your life and not throwing it away.
If you were faced with certain death, how much blood would you shed to stay alive?

The Game Comes Full Circle.

The sixth chapter of the Saw series, in which Detective Hoffman has successfully set up agent Strahm and put the blame on him for the murders that follow. In complete control, Hoffman has now gone from the jigsaw killer handyman and local muscle to the man behind the plan himself. Without giving too much away, I’ll let you all know he is the one responsible for both John and Amanda’s deaths; leaving him to continue the games as he sees fit. Now, the teacher of the ultimate lessons of life has a new problem to overcome; himself being caught. With the evidence mounting up more and each time he sees the agents working the case, Hoffman must act quick to finish his plan before he is discovered; and John’s final will goes undone. I for one was a fan of the plot, not only did the scenes and games do good in my book, but the way the writers kept the heat on for Hoffman, just pushing him to mess up and having the other detectives toying with him and playing games as to whether or not they know his involvement in the whole thing. Using up and recycling every aspect of the series is also a plus for me as well, leaving no stone unturned or no question unanswered; and doing it well. The games featured in this movie seemed to get amped up, more people were added and that means only one thing: more bodies and awesome death scenes! Seeing these movies really does give me a new lease on life, a more of an appreciation, as do I get pleasure in seeing the evil committed by the game’s players; and the moment they get what’s coming to them. Even though a couple people did not deserve to be put into it, the ones who did really showed what will they have to stay alive. Good going, looking forward to the 7th, I’m hearing in 3D?

Jigsaw: You think it's the living who will have ultimate judgment on you, because the dead will have no claim over your soul.

Jigsaw: But you may be mistaken.
