An average movie

To be honest, I wasnโ€™t really sure what to expect from this flick but since it was starring Benicio Del Toro and since it was available on Netflix, I was quite eager to check it out. Well, it turned out to be a classic crime thriller and it definitely gave me a nostalgic feeling from when I used to watch this kind of movies back in the 90's. And, indeed, for the first 90 mins, it actually worked fairly well with a nice mood, some solid directing and a pretty good cast. Unfortunately, when they started to unravel this case during the last 45 mins, the end-result became terribly generic and rather underwhelming, I'm afraid. The biggest mistake they made was probably to involve pretty much all the colleagues of the main character. I mean, not only it didn't really make sense but, above all, the whole corrupt police force thingy has been done many times before and way better than in this movie and it was just a weak way to tie things up. Concerning the cast, Del Toro was basically born to play such characters and was really convincing here, as expected. I was also rather impressed by Justin Timberlake who was surprisingly good playing some rather uptight real estate agent. Unfortunately, because they kept focusing on other characters, his character would disappear for way too long and was therefore never properly developed which felt like a missed opportunity. Finally, it was a nice touch that they gave Alicia Silverstone more time and space to develop her character to be more than a worrying or upset wife waiting for her cop husband to finally to come home, even if it did lead to nothing after all. Anyway, to conclude, in spite of its flaws, it was still a decent watch and I think it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.ย
