An average movie

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 9 September 2013 09:13

I wasn't sure what to expect from this flick but since the ratings were pretty decent, I thought I should give it a try. To be honest, at first, I really had a hard time to care about the whole thing and it took me a while to get into the story. Indeed, the beginning was really awkward and the way they started their relationship was very poorly built up. I mean, they tried to give it some extra meaning but something more simple would have worked better. After they got together, fortunately, it got better. Indeed, there was something nice and genuine about this romance. Robert Pattinson and Emilie de Ravin had some good chemistry and they both delivered some solid performances. I also liked Pierce Brosnan who can be pretty impressive when given the proper material but his character could have been more developped. Than, there was this ending which seriously came out of nowhere... I guess, many people felt it was a great emotional conclusion but what did it have to do with the rest of the story? Seriously, you could end any movie, especially any drama, with a similar ending, just to add some extra impact so I wasn't really convinced. After watching this, I discovered that Allen Coulter had directed before this 'Hollywoodland', another movie which had even more potential but which also didn't deliver so it figures. Still, in spite of its flaws, it remains a decent romantic drama and it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

Don't really like romance movies, but this was great. Even though that ending made cry like a girl, it was great, but I really think everyone would cry at the end of this movie. The story was really well written, you really got to know the characters and their families, nothing was left out and you could really feel the emotion from all the actors. Robert Pattinson, will you please step away from Twilight, and do more movies I am interested in. I loved him as Salvador Dali in Little Ashes and he was even better in this. I really felt his emotion in this, and really fell in love with his character. Oh and Emile De Ravin from Lost is in it, and she wasn't that bad at all. Pierce Brosnan, well I don't have to tell you how great he is, because he is just outstanding. Like I said I don't like romantic movies, but I loved this, check it out, and believe me that ending will make you cry.

I was quite a bit unsure about this one after watching the crap of the Twilight series. But tell you what, this is totally different and Robert Pattinson gives a wonderful performance along with Chris Cooper. If you are into romantics, its a must watch.

Хороший фильм. Теперь во мне будет бороться желание пересмотреть, и нежелание так переживать по второму разу. Когда события в фильме связаны с каким-то реальным событием, начинаешь проецировать все на тех людей,которые это пережили...и от этого страшно.

Against all expectations, I eventually needed kleenex... Nonetheless it is a great film.
