Rat Race review

Posted : 11 years ago on 24 April 2013 05:22

Not great at all. The odd joke that's okay, but it's a lame spoof. The film has a big name cast, that's it. So it could easily make people think it's gonna be good, well you'd be disappointed.

The story follows a bunch of people that go hunting for this money. There's about 5 different stories going on about how they are trying to get to the money. This film has the odd joke or to that's okay, but I'm sure the rest, if not the whole thing would only entertain kids with no taste in comedy. Jon Lovit's story was probably the best (it was the funniest). Seth Green's story was really boring, and very predictable. I didn't need a crystal ball to tell what was going to happen to them. Cuba Godding Jr.'s story was just as boring. The typical stuff. It's very unoriginal altogether. Whoopie Goldberg's story is average, just like the vast majority of this film. However, Rowan Atkinson's story had it's moments, but you couldn't help but think A scene of Mr. Bean accidentally got put into Rat Race, so it's too late for Atkinson; he's already a type-cast...

I've seen much worse though. This film wouldn't be in my "worst films list". Although Lovit's High School High is straight in there.............

I think this film is really average. It's one of those film you would only watch if you were bored, I was at the time, so I'm only going on my experience. Otherwise - Avoid.

An average movie

I wasnโ€™t expecting much from this flick but since there was a nice cast, I was quite eager to check it out. In fact, I have just noticed that the opinions on this movie are really divided here on Listal. Indeed, some viewers apparently liked it a lot but some others thought it was actually pretty lame. Well, I definitely belonged to the 2nd group and I really had a hard time to care about the whole thing. I mean, sure, there was an interesting cast (Cuba Googing Jr., Whoopy Goldberg, Seth Green, John Cleese, Rowan Atkinson, Amy Smart) but the story was rather inane in my opinion. Basically, it is one of those comedies with a rather ridiculous set-up and all the characters constantly getting involved in some supposedly hilarious situations. Well, in my opinion, most of the jokes were actually rather lame and, on top of that, the story just was just not entertaining enough. Apparently, some critics argue that it was this movie that started the decline of the once promising Cuba Gooding Jr. (eventually, โ€˜Boat Tripโ€™ released a year later would pretty much seal the deal anyway). To conclude, even though I have seen worse, I thought it was a really weak comedy and I donโ€™t think it is really worth a look.

Rat Race is a great film that includes: slapstick and creative humor with classic elements. I love the film frankly. It's very enjoyable and brings out good laughs every-time.

The plot is simply this: In a weird attempt to find new ways of wagering, these dudes in Las Vegas get random people to compete, find and claim a bag of money and the hilarity that ensues. There's dark humor elements and burst-out-laughing dialogue throughout the movie.

With a cast consisting of: John Cleese, Rowan Atkinson, Cuba Gooding Jr. and others..it's diffidently a film to view. I highly recommend it to every fan of comedy.

Dislikes: hmm....I wish it was longer. :)

9.6/10

Rat Race review

Rat Race was an interesting scavenger hunt based comedy. It had a lot of slapstick comedy in the movie so if slapstick isn't your thing than this one may not appeal to you. The basic storyline is a casino owner in Vegas picks 6 random patrons to race to a remote railroad station which is several hundred miles away where a bag with $2 million dollars is stashed. It seems simple enough but each of the contestants runs into their own logistical and sometimes personal problems. There are plenty of laughable moments as they race to the finish line. The movie has a star studded cast and they all play their parts well. One of my favorite parts was the squirrel lady and the consequences of someone not buying a squirrel from her. Overall the movie was entertaining, had a good storyline and had a unexpected but feel good ending. The movie will appeal to those who like a good comedy and particularly those who love slapstick.

It's A Race!! I Hope I Win!!

What an amazing movie! Set in vegas, with coins distributed to certain people who will become Rats themselves in search of the big cheese. Two million dollars waits in a locker at a train station in Silver City, New Mexico, and each of the coin winners has a key to that locker; but getting there will be an epic and funny battle in which other people are betting. Watching and tracking them like Rats is hotel/casino owner and his wealthy friends who will bet on almost anything imaginable, including which maid could hold on to the curtain bar the longest; what a hoot! The role of each character is perfect, as if they were born to be in this movie. Watching this in theatres for my birthday was one of the only films I remember seeing in my adolescent youth, and cracking up to throughout. Even the character introductions in the very beggining of the film was funny. Watching it about a month ago and laughing even harder, along with a room full of people inspired me to write this review; i actually cant wait to see it again in the future.. it might make me laugh harder, if possible.

Vicki: So, what can I do for you, Harry?
Harold Grisham: Okay... here's what I want. First... we both get naked.
Vicki: So far so good.
Harold Grisham: Except... we're both wearing sailor hats. Then we get into a jacuzzi filled with Pepto-Bismol, I clip your toenails, and you shave my buttocks.
Vicki: What's that?
Harold Grisham: Naked... jacuzzi... Pepto-Bismol... toenails... shave my buttocks.
Vicki: Well, you have quite an imagination, Harry.

One of my favorite comedy films of all-time

Posted : 15 years, 7 months ago on 23 September 2008 05:18

I simply love this film. The whole idea of it is great, and the cast pulls it off perfectly, including Seth Green, Cuba Gooding Jr.,Whoopi Goldberg, and a few more. No flaws are coming to mind. But please do note that this is not one of those masterpiece films, that will win a bunch of awards and be a classic, Don't hope for any of that. This is just a film for the whole family, or by yourself to sit back, laugh, and have a great time. This is one of the best films for that purpose.

The plot is about a big group of strangers, (with the exception of some friends) that are offered to go on a race to acquire a large sum of money. The person that is offering this big prize, is a guy that works at a casino. He is looking for a way to make income, so he sends these people on a rat race. They all accept, and racing they go! the obstacles they go through, and hilarious schemes they are forced into, makes this one of my all-time favorite films.
