Proof, the John Madden adaptation of David Auburn’s prize winning play. Gwyneth Paltrow plays the title role, giving one of her best performances. Paltrow going the emotional ebb on the eve of her father's death had to deal with lot more ....

Great actors in a movie out of standard due to its excellent script, where Mathematics is the relation that binds the peculiar characters of the plot. Although I am suspect to say because Mathematics is my least exact science! I recommend it though! The main three characters did a spectacular job with the script which has been given to them. "The future of cold is infinite. The future of heat is the future of cold".

A very good movie

Honestly, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but since there was a pretty cool cast, I was really eager to check it out. Indeed, this is a rather underrated and/or unknown movie and I think it is a shame because it is actually a really intriguing flick. Personally, I rather watch smart people than attractive people in a movie and, when you think about it, there are not many movies which actually deals with people using their brain. Anyway, smart characters are much more interesting, at least, that’s my opinion. In this movie, you have 3 very intelligent characters very well played by Anthony Hopkins, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jake Gyllenhaal. Furthermore, it doesn’t stop there, the movie also deals with obsession and how it can drive you mad. All these are subjects I found rather fascinating and the acting was very good and so was the directing. It is interesting to note that, 7 years before, John Madden directed ‘Shakespeare in Love’ another movie also starring Gwyneth Paltrow which was a massive financial and critical success (it was one of the most controversial winner of the Best Picture Academy Award). Well, this movie was barely noticed but it was much better in my opinion. To conclude, I think it is a very interesting feature which deserves much more credit and it is definitely worth a look.

the play was much better

This is a cinematic adaptation of Auburn's play, which was 10/10. It required you to follow the story more, and the viewer had to imagine the father; also, the scenes were not all that evident in the play, as they were kept in the background, whereas in the movie, everything had to be shown so that the general public could follow the storyline better (and understand what the entire idea was on the whole).

A good adaptation, however not the best I've ever seen.

Good Movie, Not Over the Top

I've watched a few movies lately about mental illness and this was a refreshing change. Anthony Hopkins character was definitely mentally ill, but he played it small. The illness was in his head, not splattered across the screen. And Paltrow's character who has to deal with the drama of his brilliance and illness, not to mention the fear that it might happen to her as well, was done very nicely. The play/script was well written and believable and thought provoking. I quite enjoyed this movie.
