An average movie

Posted : 13 years, 1 month ago on 4 March 2011 09:14

Right now, I have seen all the movies starring Edward Norton and there was a time when I seriously believed that he was one of the best actors in the world. Unfortunately, the guy kept making some rather dubious choices and, nowadays, I believe he might be an interesting actor but definitely not the best around. This movie is a fine example showing the average quality of his career. I mean, it was not bad at all, I did like the directing, the beginning was especially strong, and they managed to create a nice mood. Edward Norton delivered as usual a solid performance and he had some nice chemistry with Colin Farrell who was pretty good as well. Unfortunately, the story was not really strong, I’m afraid. I mean, it was watchable but I have seen this kind of story too many times before so it wasn't original at all and it was even rather predictable. Furthermore, it was just too long, too confusing and there were a few unnecessary sub-plots as well. To conclude, it’s too bad because the whole thing had some potential but, in spite of its flaws,  it was still a decent watch and I think it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

Pride and Glory review

Posted : 14 years, 8 months ago on 16 August 2009 09:21

A Good Solid Crime/Drama.*

Posted : 15 years, 6 months ago on 28 October 2008 04:32

Let me start off by saying that this film was reviewed very positively on worstpreviews.com. The reviewers compared it to "The Departed", which has absolutely no comparison. So don't go into this film with those expectations, and don't change your opinion based solely on that. I am not saying this film was not good, but just nowhere near the quality of that amazing film.

The last film I saw similar to this was "We Own The Night" which was a very good film, but not as good as this. This was much more of a drama then anything, much more than "We Own The Night", and many other cop dramas. Maybe comparing it to "Street Kings" would be a smarter way to go, but this still easily surpasses that as well.

The film is about three policeman (Farrell, Norton, Emmerich) They are all full brothers, except Jimmy Egan, who is only their brother in-law. They are all investigating a lethal shooting of four other policeman. As the film progresses, two of the men start unveiling clues as to who committed the crime, and that it might be one of their own. As Egan continues to be suspected of being the main cause of it, emotions fly, and there is a dirty cop in the unit. How the rest of the story unfolds is extremely entertaining, and will be sure to have you hooked.

The This film is filled with a lot of violent scenes, which in my opinion is a must for cop films, so I was impressed with them, and at the same time has so many great non-violent scenes. The relationships between the family members were greatly shown, and looked very much like real-life family get togethers. If there was one great aspect of this film, I would say it is the character development. It seemed like Gavin O'Connor really incorprated it into this film, and did a great job.

"Pride And Glory" is one of the most entertaining films of 2008, and probably one of the best made crime/dramas in awhile.
