It's clear from the opening scene that this is all del Toro, and that's really what makes it so special; even when the story doesn't really pop (there are instances where events move to slowly, especially in the first act), his specificity in storytelling and in filmma"
"Re-watch - Dec. 18th In anticipation of The Shape of Water I wanted to revisit Pan's Labyrinth. I still love the creature designs, and I dig the story overall. I don't know that it's my favorite of del Toro's films, but it's wonderfully realized and I appreciate it."
