Office Space review

Posted : 2 years, 1 month ago on 18 March 2022 07:22

I personally would have liked the film to have been a tad longer, however that said it is an excellent film. The cinematography and direction are both rock solid, the cast helped by great characters do wonderful jobs, alongside Friends and The Iron Giant Office Space is one of the better projects and roles Jennifer Aniston appeared in and the story is very interesting and well paced.

But it is the humour and writing where Office Space really soars. Consistently the writing and humour in Office Space is hilarious yet surrealistically truthful as well. Also this is a film that for me gets better and better every time I feel, I find something new to admire and to smile and laugh at each time.

Overall, Office Space is a great comedy. 9/10 Bethany Cox

Beauty in it's simplicity.

This movie is a cult for a reason, if you read the title, the primes, even the cast, you'd think that it isn't interesting at all, while in reality, the movie is 89 minutes of pure comedy, it had all the ingredients of a comedy, funny writing, variety of characters, naivety and hilarious one liners, furthermore, it's takes a story about a boring, mundane job and makes it really interesting.

The movie writing was the key, because it take a place where everybody can relate to it, and each characters was written so well, that it had so many aspects, even the character that makes a small cameo presented itself very well, and it gets even better when you watch it again.

Overall, i think the best thing about it was it's simplicity, and i have to give credit for Mike Judge for turning such simple characters, simple story and simple atmosphere into a funny movie.

One thing i should mention was Samir Nagheenanajar, although he was funny and had a funny last name, but why would you cast an Indian to play a middle eastern, there's a big difference between the two races, i mean it may not be very noticeable but still a minor mistake (a misdemeanor) but he was funny nonetheless.

A classic

Posted : 10 years, 2 months ago on 7 March 2014 11:02

For many years, I kept hearing good things about this flick and even though it was barely noticed when it was released, it has become since then a cult-classic (it has an impressive rating of 7.9 on Imdb) so I was really eager to check it out. For Mike Judge, the guy behind Beavis and Butt-Head, it was apparently a tough experience even though he got much love afterwards. Personally, I thought it was indeed pretty good but it didn’t really blow me away though. I don’t know, maybe it has to do with the fact that Ron Livingston is not really a charismatic lead actor but, on the other hand, it was better to have an average looking guy to play an average character with an average job instead of the usually pretty faces. At the end of the day, this flick tries to be a really edgy satire about those (supposedly) dreadful office jobs but, honestly, even though some jokes were indeed really funny, some others didn’t work really well and, eventually, they were constantly opening a whole bunch of open doors, at least, that’s my opinion. At least, it was nice to see Jennifer Anniston in something else than her typical underwhelming romantic-comedies. To conclude, even though I don’t think it is a masterpiece, it remains a pretty good black comedy and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

Office Space review

How many times have I sat in my cubicle, wishing I could just push the wall down and stare out the window for the rest of the day? I love this movie. For anyone who works in an office setting, this ones for you.

Work Sucks.

Posted : 15 years, 5 months ago on 21 November 2008 09:53

It really does. In Fact, im doing this review in my closet called an office. Every person i know who has a job loves this movie because they can relate to simply not going into work anymore. Just about every aspect of work sucks, from being bossed around to deadlines, to even everyone's version of the dreaded "tps" reports. hell, in my office i even have that secretary with the high voice; she says "hi, how are you?" a good 65 times a day. The movie is based around someone sick of not only their job, but how the office system works, so he came up with a plan to start a virus which dumps fractions of his companies transactions into a private account; not enough to really notice but enough to live off of. The big fuck you to the man, hell yea. His friends go along with him after he reveals the knowlegde of both their terminations. Yep, they got fired for doing they're job; and he gets a promotion for sheming on initech and coming and going as he pleases. Good thing he made it good with the Bobs. Made by Mike judge, im glad to see the "stapler" guy brought to life from the comic. The ending is a bit of a kick in the ass, but overall I loved the idea; other people miserable at work. YEa, and fuck that fax machine, it got what it deserved.

Bob Slydell: You see, what we're actually trying to do here is, we're trying to get a feel for how people spend their day at work... so, if you would, would you walk us through a typical day, for you?
Peter Gibbons: Yeah.
Bob Slydell: Great.
Peter Gibbons: Well, I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late, ah, I use the side door - that way Lumbergh can't see me, heh heh - and, uh, after that I just sorta space out for about an hour.
Bob Porter: Da-uh? Space out?
Peter Gibbons: Yeah, I just stare at my desk; but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch, too. I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work.

An Excellent Comedy From Mike Judge.*

Posted : 15 years, 6 months ago on 15 October 2008 02:40

Seeing as this is the only Mike Judge film I have ever seen, I was sort of skeptical. But the outcome is great. This is probably one of the best comedies ever made. I mainly enjoyed the real life hilarious relationships between the office workers. It really makes me think, I mean there are actually people in this world that do that exact same thing. I just really enjoy real life comedies opposed to people trying to be funny and cracking stupid jokes the whole film.

The film is about a guy named Peter Gibbons who really hates his job sitting in a little cubicle in front of his computer all day. He goes through day day after day doing the same exact thing, seeing the same people, and getting the same crap from his numerous bosses. He got sick and tired of it, so he gets a mind transformation which enables him to be happy no matter what happens. When he goes to work after that, he arrives late every time, wears whatever he wants, and doesn't care whether he gets fired or not. The hilarious thing is, he gets a promotion from doing that. There are a lot of other hilarious characters as well, including the stapler guy, his boss, and his two friends. Jennifer Aniston plays the role of his girlfriend also, so look out for that.

I highly recommend viewing this film. You will not regret it, and probably add it to your favorite comedy films.

7.5/10

Classic comedy at its best!

"Peter, what's happening?"

Office Space is a film I had no interest in seeing at all. The front cover of the DVD was something that never sparked my interest; the cover was not enticing and it made the film look like some silly child comedy. But I am very glad that I finally took the time to sit down and watch this gem.

The first shot was enough to have me allured. And after the opening scene I was already laughing and clapping due to the comedic genius of the whole thing. And yet the whole film maintains this high level of comedy genius.

No matter how many times I watch it I have a tremendously good time. I had no idea the film was going to be this enjoyable. Office Space is bright and funny; it contains a sleuth of fantastic, quirky characters and amusing one-liners that will have the audience laughing the whole way through.

Peter Gibbons (Livingston) lives a mundane life. He despises his miserable dead-end job, finds out his girlfriend is cheating on him and has an irritating neighbour. For Peter, everyday is the worst day of his life. At his job he's forced to spend the whole day in a cubicle in front of a computer screen and has a sleazy boss named Bill Lumbergh (Cole). At the request of his girlfriend Peter sees a hypnotherapist who dies before releasing Peter from a state of complete and total bliss. He is then free of worrying about making a living; instead just not caring anymore about the company he works for. Instead he decides that he just won't go to work anymore. Ironically the more Peter malingers, the more he's seen as management material by the idiotic consultants. To add further insult to the situation, two of his hard-working co-workers are set to be dismissed from the company. To get revenge the three men team up and hatch a cunning plan that will rip off the company.

Office Space is excellently played out like a simple comic strip, and it works. The film is based on comic strips conceived by director Mike Judge. He skilfully retains this charm. But I think many audiences like this film so much because of its accuracy in displaying the dull life of sitting in an office cubicle all day long. The surrounding characters are all 100% accurate! I loved the way that the actors executed their roles.

Ron Livingston was very good as Peter Gibbons. He was accurate and wasn't too over-the-top. Stephen Root was the stand out here for me. He nailed his character. Every time he says a line it was enough to make me chuckle. Gary Cole was also a stand out as the sleazy boss. His droning voice is an aspect of a boss that we can all relate to. Cole delivers his lines in a memorable fashion. Heck, I could go on about every cast member present here but this review would go on for ages. I loved each and every person present in the cast. They all had their moments of genuine hilarity.

Office Space is hands down one of my favourite films of all time. The whole film is surprisingly unpredictable with an ending that is highly unconventional and unexpected. I cannot express how much I love this movie. Needless to say, you must see it without hesitation.

Milton rocks!

Milton:

"And I said, I don't care if they lay me off either, because I told, I told Bill that if they move my desk one more time, then, then I'm, I'm quitting, I'm going to quit. And, and I told Don too, because they've moved my desk four times already this year, and I used to be over by the window, and I could see the squirrels, and they were married, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and it's not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire... "

best quote of the movie. LOL

One of best comedies ever made

Posted : 17 years, 7 months ago on 4 October 2006 07:23

A hilarious comedy, especially for anyone who's been in an office environment. The plot centres around a company with disgruntled workers that hate their jobs, their boss, and on top of it all, consultants are brought in to trim employee count and to outsource all the work. It's one of those comedies that you'll remember forever, and find yourself repeating many of its punch lines to your friends.
