To be honest, I had no idea what to expect from this movie but, even if I might be mistaken, it probably turned out to be the saddest movie I have seen so far with my filmclub. Indeed, it was just so intense and it really touched me emotionally. As far as I was concerned, it was just heartbreaking to see this man who obviously had a rough life, who obviously deeply loved his child, who was probably one of the best parents I have seen in a movie, to face such an irredeemable  and final death sentence. The little kid was also amazing and gave here a phenomenal child performance. Eventually, for 90 minutes, you have to watch these two human beings who were meant to be together, who worked so perfectly together, coming into terms with the fact that they will be separated, each in their own way, and this process was just so excruciating to behold. So, it was some strong stuff but it wasn’t completely flawless though. The first issue was that the whole thing was really predictable. For example, the way the single woman said and did exactly the right things was not exactly subtle. It was also rather odd that it never seemed to be an option to reach out to the biological mother to, at least, give her the option to take over this child. Finally, there was the fact that this man was completely isolated socially speaking which, of course, as a result, seriously amplified even more the connection between this father and his child but, to be honest, it felt also slightly manipulative. Anyway, to conclude, even if it was maybe missing something to be really great, it was still an intense and heartbreaking drama and it is definitely worth a look.
