An average movie

I wasn't expecting much from this flick but since I have a weak spot for Russell Crowe, I thought I might as well give it a try. To start with, during most of the 90’s and 00’s, Jay Roach was above all involved in two massive comic franchises, ‘Austin Powers’ and ‘Meet the Parents’, but apparently, he still found the time to make this rather obscure comedy. Like I said before, I had some rather low expectations concerning this flick but, eventually, I must admit it, the whole thing wasn't that bad at all after all. Of course, the story was nothing original and completely predictable but I thought it was entertaining enough. Furthermore, it was quite refreshing to see Russell Crowe trying something else, in this case, a comedy and I thought he pulled it off quite well. The main issue I had was the total lack of ambition displayed by the makers. I mean, they took the most basic blueprint about sports movie and just followed the formula without adding one single thing really original or out-of the-box. Still, to conclude, even though it is nothing mind-blowing whatsoever, it is actually a decent comedy and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you are looking for a brainless but entertaining sport comedy.
