Description:
Countess Hélène, who is engaged to Ivan, a dissolute scion of the nobility, attends a masquerade alone and is accosted by six young men of Ivan's set who take her by force to an inn and cast lots for her. Sascha, son of a grand duke, assaults her; and to forestall trouble, his father accuses Hélène of being in league with Nihilists. Following a hearing, she is exiled to Siberia; but the remorseful Sascha arranges to have her rescued and sent to Vienna.
