Too real to life, especially mine

Posted : 2 years ago on 1 April 2022 11:28

Warning: Spoilers
When I watched this movie, I didn't know what to expect. So after I watched it, I vowed never to watch it again. This exact same thing happened to me when I was young, except I as the survivor, I was the boy instead of the girl.

I don't mean to discourage others from seeing it. It's just too painful for me to have to endure it again. The acting was superb, in fact so surperb, that it had me left with tears that I didn't know I had left to cry. It's a good movie, and I hope everyone who sees it understands its meaning. It amounts to a lot more than a young girl who looses her best friend through a freak accident.

Thanks for letting me express my opinion.

Well..... It was really a very cute movie. I felt that Culkin was exceptional in this movie. I even shed few tears when I saw this movie for the first time. It was a heart touching movie.. I felt that this is the best movie of Culkin after Home alone as a child actor.... Lovable story..

A good movie

Back in the 90's, Macaulay Culkin was a huge star but, honestly, I never understood his appeal. I mean, I have actually nothing against him but, in my opinion, Macaulay Culkin was one of the most overrated child actors ever. I mean, I never thought he was really that good and I thought he was even actually pretty obnoxious, especially in those 'Home Alone' flicks. However, there was at least one exception and it was this movie. Indeed, even though it was actually nothing really original, it was actually a very touching story and simply a well made family drama. Macaulay Culkin here, for once, toned down his usual hysteria and gave a solid performance and with Anna Chlumsky, they had some very good chemistry which is something pretty remarkable since they were just some kids. In general, movies about children can be pretty condescending or over-sentimental but I thought that this movie touched the right note and I really enjoyed it. To conclude, it is seriously one of the best movies dealing with children that I have seen and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you have a weak spot for Macaulay Culkin.

My Girl review

Posted : 12 years, 7 months ago on 3 September 2011 01:31

Vada Sultenfuss is obsessed with death. Her mother died during childbirth, and her father runs a funeral parlor. She is also in love with her English teacher, and joins a poetry class over the summer just to impress him. Thomas J, her best friend, is "allergic to everything", and sticks with Vada despite her hangups.

When Vada's father hires Shelly, a makeup expert, in his funeral parlor, and begins to fall in love with her, Vada is outraged by their sudden engagement, trying to find a way to split them up, but after a terrible tragedy, Vada realises that Shelly isn't so bad, as she's the only person she can really talk to.

The only film that can still make me cry. I love how it builds up the friendship between Vada and Thomas J throughout the movie. Their friendship is so adorable and sweet, right from the beginning.

The characters are very real and respond to things just as normal people would, unlike a lot of other movies.

Although it is a great movie, it turns into a very sad tale, making the auidence really feel what Vada is feeling.
