A good movie

Posted : 7 years, 4 months ago on 25 December 2016 07:49

To be honest, I don't think I really needed, at this point, another version of this classic Shakespeare play. Especially since the previous version I saw (a modern Australian version starring Sam Worthington) was just so weak. Still, since the two main characters, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, were played by Michael Fassbinder and Marion Cotillard, I have to admit that this new version sounded quite intriguing. Well, first of all, the whole thing looked great and I think it was a great idea to keep the original setting in Scotland in the 11th century. This way, the text worked better as it really matched the surroundings of the characters. Furthermore, of course, both Fassbender and Cotillard really nailed their performances. And, yet, even though I admired the work done there, the damned thing was still missing something to really dazzle me. Was it because I have seen this story so many times before (it must have been at least the 5th adaptation I have seen by now)? I think it had mostly to do with the fact that, except for 2 battle scenes, which were visually pretty neat, nothing else really happened and what remained were some strong actors trying to deliver these classics Shakespearean ย dialogues the best they could. I mean, if it's your thing, you will probably love this movie but, otherwise, it is rather difficult to really get into the whole thing. To conclude, even though it didn't really blow me away, it was still a decent watch and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

Macbeth review

Posted : 8 years, 2 months ago on 4 February 2016 02:05

Thoughts Before I Watched This:
1. I've been wanting to see this for awhile.
2. Michael Fassbender is such an excellent actor.
3. In fact it has quite a great cast from the other side of the world.
4. Justin Kurzel wrote and directed the disturbing Snowtown Murders film which was pretty good.
5. I have never heard of any of the screenwriters.
6. Michael Lesslie will be writing the upcoming Assassin's Creed film though.
7. I honestly can't say I recall ever seeing an adaptation of Macbeth.
8. I may have read some of it in school though at some point.
9. Amusing how this just so happens to have witches (seeing as I had just watched The Last Witch Hunter).

Thoughts While I Watched This:
1. Starts off dark and gloomy.
2. Speaking of witches...
3. Oh dear a little bit of scrolling reading material.
4. The music doesn't give of a peaceful joyous vibe.
5. Everyone is so damn silent it's quite unnerving.
6. Interesting choice to mix normal and slow motion like that.
7. Well this is quite gritty awesome.
8. Oh he can speak took about 10 minutes lol.
9. I swear Shakespeare can be hard to understand at times.
10. I mean I get the gist of it all and I know it's great.
11. Marion Cotillard you make me melt.
12. I wish the people of this time could speak and hear as intelligently as they did in Shakespearean times.
13. There is so much great imagery here.
14. The back and forth thing is getting a little bit repetitive.
15. Damn dude has no chill!
16. These two are definitely disturbed.
17. Is there any point in this that isn't dark or gloomy.
18. It's almost as if smiling doesn't exist lol.
19. Oh no that's just not cool.
20. This is definitely a tragedy.
21. All those visions can't be good for life.
22. You created a monster you cannot control it's all on you.
23. Visually so attractive with it's colors and what have you.
24. "My voice is in my sword." What a great line!
25. A very interesting a different fight than I usually expect.
26. Hmm okay the ending was a bit odd.

Thoughts After I Watched This:
1. Michael Fassbender is still awesome!
2. Shakespearean dialogue occasionally goes over my head. Don't judge me.
3. Sean Harris needs to be these kinds of characters more often.
4. The color palate in the visuals was incredible.
5. I wonder if there is any modernized versions of Macbeth out of curiosity.
6. It was enjoyable, but very different than what I expected.
