To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much from this flick but since there was a decent cast, I thought I might as well give it a try. Unfortunately, in spite of the interesting cast including one very charming actress (the late Brittany Murphy), one of the best actresses around (Holly Hunter) but also Kathy Bates, Rashida Jones and Josie Maran, the movie really failed to entertain me. Indeed, I thought that the whole concept was actually pretty inane and I wasn't at all fascinated by this all "black book" thing. Maybe, I'm too old for that sh*t but, even so, in our modern age when pretty much everyone is walking around with their smartphone, such pdas seem rather old-fashioned. Anyway, I guess the makers thought that the whole thing could be some satire about our modern world (my guess why such a good actress like Holly Hunter would get involved in such a project or maybe she simpy got a fat paycheck) but the tone was just way too light for the whole thing to be taken seriously. To conclude, I thought it was a very average flick and I don’t think it is really worth a look, except maybe if you are a die-hard fan of Brittany Murphy.
