This long-lost 1918 depiction of the life of the Welsh firebrand orator, radical social reformer and World War 1 prime minister plays like The Adoration of the Saviour- of the Poor, Empire and Civilisation. I wasn't so keen on the pounding war propaganda that dominates the second half, but its dramatic scale, use of locations, surging crowds and sweeter moments are vastly impressive.
