The Apartment Reviews

For many years, for some rather obscure reasons, I really wanted to watch this flick. I don't know why exactly, maybe it is because Vincent Cassel and Monica Bellucci were once again performing together and they are always interesting when they are combined. Anyway, I thought it was a really intriguing romantic thriller. Indeed, the directing was really efficient and the actors were all very convincing. Unfortunately, I was still not really blown away by the whole thing. Indeed, the main issue was probably that the story was really far-fetched, especially the ending. But the fact it was all really convoluted was also the charm of this flick. For example, in 'Wicker Park', which was in fact a decent American remake of the same story, they changed the whole ending and it made somehow much more sense but, as a result, it was rather boring eventually and the end result was even more unsatisfying. In this original version, I also thought it was rather hard to believe that the main character would dump Monica Bellucci for Romane Bohringer but that's me, I guess. Still, in spite of its flaws, it is and remains a rather spellbinding and entertaining story and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you are interested in French movies.
