To be honest, since this movie had received some rather abysmal reviews, I didn’t expect much from it and I actually thought Nick, my step-son, would choose to go to ‘Wicked’ but he apparently changed his mind at the last minute. Well, following the massive success of the MCU, Sony did give a try with their own Spider-Man Universe but, except for the Venom franchise, all their movies, including this one, were some huge commercial and critical flops and Sony had decided after all to stop developing further projects in this direction. Anyway, surprisingly, I don’t think it was so bad at all after all. Sure, it is basically a rather silly super-hero flick but, ever since Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy and the MCU’s box-office juggernaut, I think the expectations towards this genre have become seriously unrealistic. Was Kraven the Hunter such a great character? After watching this movie, I’m not sure. The funny thing is that the whole purpose/goal of this guy was to hunt down Spider-Man but Spidey was nowhere to be seen here. Did Kraven really deserved a standalone feature like this one? Probably not. They basically made a similar mistake they already made with ‘Morbius’ as they should have leaned much more in the fact that this character was actually a bad guy. By the way, while watching the damned thing, I was wondering who was this charismatic actress who was playing Calypso Ezili and it is only afterwards that I figured out that it was actually Ariana DeBose. On the other hand, it was the first time I saw her again after discovering her in the ‘West Side Story’ remake a few years back. Wow, I noticed that I haven’t said anything really positive about this movie so far… Anyway, to conclude, in my opinion, it wasn't a total disaster and I think it might be actually worth a look but only if you don’t mind when a super-hero flick is basically a rather expensive B feature.
