Peckinpah in minor clue, but each detail, so much undesrtatement between the family and the town. There's even a documentary look od a 4th july parade and the rodeo itself, so well matched...

An average movie

Honestly, I had some pretty high expectations with this flick. I mean, come on, a movie directed by Sam Peckinpah and starring the king of cool, Steve McQueen, it really sounded great on paper. Indeed, I think that Steve McQueen was a really awesome actor and I try to catch up his movies whenever I get the chance and, this time, he was working with Sam Peckinpah so I thought this flick should be a winner. However, the whole thing turned out to be rather disappointing. I mean, it is definitely not a bad movie and McQueen does his usual cool guy act and he was indeed awesome as well and the movie, in general, was rather well made. Eventually, my main issue was that I never really cared about the story or the characters involved. I mean, they deliberately chose a slow pace and the whole thing was rather contemplative but the end-result was rather mixed. To put it simply, the whole thing was actually rather boring and uneventful which was rather surprising coming from a guy like Peckinpah who made, at the time, one of the most violent Westerns with โ€˜The Wild Bunchโ€™. Still, even though it was rather disappointing, it still remains an intriguing feature and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you are interested in McQueen's work.
