An average movie

Posted : 7 years, 4 months ago on 30 December 2016 07:33

Apparently, it was not enough to adapt so many books written by Stephen King, now, they have decided to adapt also the books written by his kids as well. Well, even though it was not bad at all, at least, it was better than 'Mirrors' which was probably the last movie I saw directed by Alexandre Aja. However, to be honest, it was still missing something to really win me over though. I mean, the concept had some potential but I'm not sure that this story had anything else really interesting to tell. First of all, they used this rather old gimmick of going back and forth between the present and the past but it is in fact a rather cheap way to make a simple story look more complicated than it actually is and it was definitely the case here. For example, I figured pretty much from the very beginning that Lee was actually the one who killed the girl. Concerning Harry Potter, sorry, I meant, Daniel Radcliffe, it was pretty obvious that he tried to shake his image with this movie but you wonder if playing another character with some supernatural powers was really the best choice. Still, I have to admit it, he was not bad in this movie. Anyway, to conclude, all in all, I thought it was a decent watch and I think it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

Horns review

This movie starts out good, it could develop into something nice. The ending is pretty weird and unsatisfying though. I read up on the source material and the novel is even weirder. Normally I like if the movie sticks to the book, but in this case there would be so many better things. I'm glad they changed it, but they could have done better. A lot better.

Horns review

I just got done watching A Good Marriage and felt the next stop should be with Stephen King's son Joe Hill's first film adaptation. I have been wanting to see this for awhile and I'm excited to see how his storytelling compares to his father. Alexandre Aja directs this which is a good sign as he did three movies I enjoyed quite well (High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes remake, and Mirrors). It also helps that he got a hold of some pretty good actors. I think Juno Temple must love showing off her body as pretty much every movie I see of her she at some point shows her birthday suit. Either that or she is a nudist who has to wear clothes just for most of the movie time haha. Okay this is very intriguing and it's very original. I love the concept of this and I'm glad I didn't actually know anything about the story before I watched it. You can tell that Joe Hill takes after his father as there are plenty of elements in this that remind me of Stephen King stories. Daniel Radcliffe proves he has some excellent acting chops as well as good skill with American English. The comedy is dark and enjoyable. There are a few uncomfortable and unexpected things, but it doesn't take away from the pure entertainment. I find it kind of funny that although Daniel Radcliffe has tried to stray far from Harry Potter his love interest still has red hair. Also the fact that snakes show up several times reminds me of Harry Potter as well. It's interesting to see all the different reactions that come from people close to Ig that see his horns. The acting is amazing and I think the actors fit their roles perfectly. There were some pretty good twists throughout. I have to say this is one of the best movies I have seen all year. It's visually stunning and the make-up is amazing. The ending was intense and showed some pretty nifty stuff. This is a definite must see.
