(MU) This deserves to be a culti film, kind of juvenile deliberate killer "Stepford wives" with big black humour politicall incorrect touches (policemen believing a man is gay becuase his boy is founf with a bottle of water and not a bear!)....good mathc Wyno na and Slater

Tengo sentimientos encontrados.
Empezar por algo muy personal
Es como que se agarraron musicalmente lo más cliché y aburrido posible. Mejor haber metido rolas buenas de la época.
Gustos aparte, Heathers es un trampantojo.
De una película escolar con un humor sorprendemente oscuro y una trama hiper estereotipada te va metiendo en un drama que no termina de satirizar mucho los suicidios en institutos americanos y la repercusión social que representan.
Por escenas de sátira se siente hasta surreal.
Las partes en las que las Heathers juegan al criket es de lo más absurdo e irreal del mundo. Y ahí está el punto.
De primeras y hasta la mitad la cinta no se toma nada en serio tragedias como lo son suicidios o asesinatos.
Pero conforme avanza va tomando el tono pertinente al exponer cómo muchos adolescentes con tal de tener una imagen y preservarla en sus círculos sufren por dentro y en casos extremos depresión y ansiedad.
Y la azarosa crítica al cómo muchas personas y los medios de comunicación banalizan el suicidio o peor, lo explotan como si fuera una noticia más y acaban glorificándolo.
También logra transmitir ese cliché de las chicas juntándose con tipos atractivos por lo aparentemente rebeldes o vulgares que son a pesar de que no les van a aportar nada bueno en sus vidas. Pero es aquí donde debo pararme.
Esto es, porque aunque acabe de valorar muy positivamente el trato de estos temas y el humor negro que emplea durante la mayor parte de la historia para reforzar el punto, puede llegar a ser muy confuso.
Le pasa como a otras obras que pretenden criticar algo y al final lo hacen bien pero en todo el desarollo de cimentar el mensaje es ambigua.
En este caso deja poco a la imaginación. Esto es de todo menos sútil y críptico. Sin embargo durante gran parte de la hora y cuarenta que dura es fácil dudar de si se está riendo de las relaciones con buscavidas o sociópatas o si los está pasando como algo normal.
Mismo aplica con el tema del suicidio. El mejor ejemplo es el de la escena de los padres hablando con Verónica o las otros dialógos que en general resultan cómicos. Para este punto la película ya debería tener un tono más serio. No obstante es al principio cuando no puedes tomarte nada enserio que una chica cuerda orqueste y ejecute un asesinato sin apenas remordimientos de primeras. Es gracioso.
Luego se redime y todo eso. Aun así, la actitud de Verónica para este punto es simplemente absurda y 0 creíble.
En otras cosas que me parecieron mal llevadas mencionaría las citas del J.D. No encuentro más que pseudo-filosofía pretenciosa y a un personaje totalmente edgy. Pero sirve para gran parte del mensaje de Heathers, como ya dije en anteriores líneas. Peor aún es la citación de frases de Moby Dick. Dios, dejen ese libro god fuera de pseudo-filosofía y dando la idea de que es una lectura súper deprimente.
En fin, Heathers tiene un importante y gran mensaje. Realmente impactante y de valor. Pero entre su humor satírico y situaciones al principio de la cinta absurdas y sin repercusión alguna al poco tiempo puedes no tomártela muy en serio y quitarle credebilidad.
Su protagonista acaba tomando el rumbo que debía tomar de cualquier manera. Es decir, como debió ser. Y acaba siendo badass as fuck.
De modo que ta bien.

I'm going to make this review short. I adore this film. It's so funny and suprisingly violent. A young Winona Ryder and a young Christian Slater make the cutest pair.
The best part about this film is the entire thing is about these snoody prep kids, and watching this film is like bringing to life what I always secretly wished I could do to these types of kids in high school. (of course they were just fantasies, I'm not that cruel.)
I feel so bad for Winona's Veronica because she is so unhappy with the way her life is and then out of the blue this guy comes in who has the potential to turn things around for her. Of course she fell in love with J.D's charm, but he turns out he's such a bad guy.
This movie is also one where you have no idea what is going to happen next. J.D is SO unpredictable with what hes going to do, that when the plot is revealed your like 'WOW what a unique way to kill someone'.
Lastly this film holds some of the BEST movie quotes such as "Fuck me gentley with a chainsaw" and "Dear diary, my teen angst bullshit has a bodycount." as well as "Greetings and saluatations!". Overall this film is a funny and quirky teenage angst movie and possibly my favorite 80's film.

I love Winona Ryder. After that whole Mr. Deeds/shoplifting one-two fiascos she went missing. Pity since her smart-but-slacker quirky girl vibe always intrigued me. Here I am convinced that she is just playing a variation of herself. But it works like gangbusters. She’s funny, dark and appropriately complicated. Heathers was her big coming out party.
By now everyone should know the basic gist of the storyline: Goth former outcast Veronica gets in with the most popular clique in school – the Heathers, learns to regret it, gets romantically involved with a sociopath, chaos and subversion ensue. This isn’t John Hughes’ high school movie. This is an unwieldy beast that is both very disturbing and extremely hilarious. At times painfully accurate to the experiences and senses that I remember about high school; and at other times completely and utterly deranged. It doesn’t hurt that before there was such a thing as Mean Girls or Diablo Cody there was this immensely quotable screenplay. My favorite? Well, I’d say that it was “If you want to fuck with the eagles you’ve got to learn to fly.” But “I love my dead gay son” does have its own hilarious edge.
The most venom comes courtesy of former teen pin-up Christian Slater. There is such a thing as a short shelf life for teen idols and their looks, but Slater was only swoon worthy and kinda sexy in this movie. He’s also completely and totally insane. I want to believe that there’s some kind of psychological depth being explored in his character, but I think that they were just aiming for b-movie/cult figure head. He’s the most like a John Waters character.
The semi-happy ending is a bit confusing to talk about in the rest of the film’s context. Yes, a revamp of the societal hierarchy in high school is a great thing. But coming after so much death, violence, sex, drugs and one-liners (sounds like a typical high school, no?) done in the darkest black of black comedies feels odd. There’s no other word for it. But Heathers has deservedly become a cult classic. If you haven’t seen this at least three times by now, what’s your damage?
