An average movie

Posted : 8 years, 5 months ago on 5 December 2015 10:39

It seems that Andrew Niccol has become really productive those last years releasing his 3rd movie in 4 years. It's too bad that none of those were actually any good. I mean,  I have to admit it, this last one was not bad and it definitely had some potential but it shows that, even if an idea seems interesting,  it doesn’t always result into an interesting movie. Indeed, it sounded really intriguing to make a movie about warfare done by drones but, eventually,  you end up with a pilot with his crew staring at their screens in some container for half of the duration. On top of that, the main character's family life was also so pedestrian and unoriginal. I mean, it's difficult to feel sorry for this guy who had to go every night to bed with someone like January Jones. I mean, it might sound stupid but, sure, it might not be as thrilling as flying a F16 on a regular basis but is it a reason to feel so miserable? What should the rest of us feel then, with our average boring day job? Should we also feel completely miserable about our lifes? Sure, I understood the whole concept but it was just rather poorly developed and difficult to be taken seriously.  Then, suddenly, they shift the focus on something completely different and they tried to make a whole point about the fact that he starts to feel guilty about some questionable targets but doesn't it actually really go with the territory? I mean, in fact, it didn’t have anything to do with drone piloting anymore and I'm pretty sure he had to face some similar situations while flying his F16 at some point so, why would he suddenly feel so bad about it? To conclude, the more I think about it,  the more I think the whole thing didn’t work but I still think it is worth a look,  if only because there is no other movie about the subject.
