I'm over it

Posted : 9 years, 2 months ago on 20 February 2015 11:32

Not that I went into this silly teen movie expecting much, but 'Get Over It' turned out to be stupider than I thought and (unlike a handful of other teen flicks of its time) not even stupid in an entertaining way. Actually, I fell asleep before the ending; I didn't bother going back later to see what I missed of 'Get Over It', because I didn't care.

I won't even bother writing about the "plot" (something about kids putting on a Shakespeare play, and teen romance. Oh, and Martin Short appears as the director of the Shakespeare production; he's as irritating as ever.)

The only reason I'm granting the movie an extra half-star is because I once interviewed its director (Tommy O'Haver, who fared much better with his later film 'An American Crime' -- which, other than involving teenagers, is about as different from this one as you can get) and because the Wondermints' song "Arnaldo Said" randomly played during some basketball scene, which made me snicker. (3/10)

An average movie

Honestly, I wasnโ€™t really expecting much from this flick but since there was a nice cast, I thought I should check it out. Eventually, I wasn't really blown away by this flick. I mean, the title was lame, the poster was lame and the story was quite average as well. Still, there was indeed a pretty cool cast (Kirsten Dunst, Ben Foster, Sisqรณ, Shane West, Colin Hanks, Zoe Saldana, Mila Kunis, Martin Short, Carmen Electra). It was above all pretty neat to see a young Ben Foster who back then already displayed some tremendous talent. Nowadays, he is definitely one of the most interesting up-and-coming actors at work and probably the best character actor of his generation. Even if he shows up in some disappointing movies (like this one), he always manages to stand above the material. Anyway, I have to admit it, the movie itself was watchable but it was just some really standard teen comedy routine with nothing really original or interesting about it and I really had a hard time to care about the characters or what they were going through. To conclude, I donโ€™t think it is really worth a look, expect maybe if you are a huge fan of this genre.
