George of the Jungle review

Posted : 2 years, 1 month ago on 31 March 2022 09:28

What can I say? An entertaining and fun movie. It is however a little too overlong, Thomas Haden Church is underused and some of the story leans towards the predictable side of things. However, it is very nice to look at, the scenery is colourful and the sets are splendid. Even the cinematography is very good. The music is fun and catchy, it is probably just me but after seeing this film I have had the main title song stuck in my head for days. The script is witty and quotable and the jokes are funny. And then the performances really do add to the sense of fun. Brendan Fraser gives a very likable lead performance, and Leslie Mann is appealing as Ursula. As the intellectual ape "Ape", John Cleese is fitfully amusing. But the star of the show is the sardonic and hilarious narration from Keith Scott. Overall, a fun and entertaining movie, not perfect, but I recommend it. 7/10 Bethany Cox

George of the Jungle review

This is actually one of the better parody films to come out of Hollywood.ย  It is childish but also pretty darn charming.ย  Kids and adults alike can enjoy this for it's over the top lunacy and appealing leads.

An average movie

To be honest, I wasnโ€™t expecting much from the damned thing but since it was available on Disney+, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, back in those days, Brendan Fraser managed to get his breakthrough by playing such goofy characters and, as a result, it was probably the main reason why I never took the guy seriously. At least, I donโ€™t think it was a bad idea of making a spoof of Tarzan. Indeed, the whole concept of the king of jungle has always been actually quite ridiculous so to make fun of it actually did make sense. Eventually, in this case, the end-result turned out to be some rather daft comedy but, even if I have to admit that it was rather harmless, it was also hardly entertaining, Iโ€™m afraid. The main issue was that they never tried to go further than some running jokes involving George crashing against a tree or Ape delivering some major farts. It's too bad because it could have been fun to display how incompetent George was in his job as โ€™King of the Jungleโ€™. Anyway, the bottom line was that the damned thing was just rather poorly written. I mean, they began in the jungle but it seemed that they got stuck half way through so they sent the characters to San Francisco but, once again, they didnโ€™t really figure out how to further develop this tale from this point so they moved the major characters back again to the jungle. Concerning Brendan Fraser, I have to admit that he was physically actually quite convincing but his whole act of fool-with-a-heart-of-gold never really worked for me. Anyway, to conclude, I was actually seriously bored by the damned thing and I donโ€™t think it is really worth a look. ย  ย ย
