Friday the 13th Part 2 Reviews
Introducing Jason
Posted : 2 years, 1 month ago on 3 March 2022 12:21Of the sequels, 'Friday the 13th Part 2' is one of the better ones easily and one of the few instalments to be as good, even on par. It's not perfect, it's not what one would call great. It does however achieve its primary goals well, it is scary and it is fun. Plus it introduces Jason Voorhees as the antagonist, so it is an important sequel in the series in this respect.
Like the first 'Friday the 13th', 'Friday the 13th Part 2' is far from the best when it comes to acting. The exceptions are appealing Amy Steel and a truly freaky Warrington Gillette. Everybody else ranges from average to dead-end.
Nor is it the best when it comes to dialogue. Much of it is very crude and cheesy. Or character development, and what the film does worse than the original is that we don't sympathise with the characters here as much apart from Ginny. The ending is a head-scratcher and pretty nonsensical, not the truly unsettling one of the first film.
Visually, on the other hand, it improves over the original 'Friday the 13th' quite drastically. It's still creepy but has more of a professional, slicker look and like more time was dedicated to it. Like 'Friday the 13th', 'Friday the 13th Part 2' is very gory and gruesome, though not pointlessly so, but it is also very frightening and suspenseful.
This is apparent in the deaths, which are still very creative and shocking, and the hauntingly eerie music score. 'Friday the 13th' is assuredly directed and moves along at a lively pace. As said, Steel carries the film with a good deal of appealing charm and Gillette proves why Jason is often considered an iconic character in horror.
Overall, pretty good sequel and one of the better ones of a variable franchise. 7/10 Bethany Cox

An average movie
Posted : 8 years ago on 7 April 2016 09:17From the 3 big horror movies that launched some major franchises in the 80’s (‘Halloween’, ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’, ‘Friday the 13th’), my favorite one was ‘Friday the 13th’. Maybe it was because I saw it first but I thought that this first installment was just quite spellbinding and really entertaining to watch. With this in mind, I was having a bunch of my friends at my house so I thought we could have a small ‘Friday the 13th’ marathon so I rented again the first and also the second installment and so we could watch them back-to-back. Eventually, I couldn’t believe how underwhelming the 1st sequel was and it was, in my opinion, a huge step back from the previous movie. Indeed, nothing much really impressed me here and what remained was just an average and boring slasher flick. Even the fact that Jason Voorhees was finally introduced as the main antagonist felt seriously anti-climatic to me. Eventually, I was so disappointed by this movie that my original interest in this franchise completely vanished and I would never ever watch another installment, except for ‘Freddy vs Jason’ the crossover with Freddy Krueger which I saw many years later. To conclude, I guess my expectation were just too high but I don’t think it is really worth a look, except maybe if you are a die-hard fan of the genre.

The unoriginality continues...
Posted : 11 years, 1 month ago on 28 March 2013 04:18I can't exactly say I was ever a fan of the Friday 13th franchise, but I'd rather watch these than The Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, and I'm not even sure why, maybe because I had already seen most of these before I saw the first Nightmare on Elm Street film, but I honestly don't want to get into that franchise. After wasting my time watching the, what 16(?!?) of these crappy Friday 13th sequels, the last thing I want to do is waste it on another crappy, worthless and money-grabbing franchise. These film are so unoriginal, that you just accept it. You don't care about it. Because you just think that all horror films are unoriginal, well, that's not true. You do get the odd horror film that is really original. I can't think of any names at the moment, because, after all, it is only a matter of taste I guess. We all have that one guilty pleasure horror film, but this isn't mine.
The reason I said this is one of the 'better' Friday 13th sequels is, well, quite possibly because it had more deaths and has less stalling, and less crappy 80's horror movie music in the background. Though, I still think it's a crap film, just I think it's better than the first one, I hated that one. I just think if I'm going to sit there for over an hour, I at the very least want some entertaining deaths, because that's the very reason you put a horror film on, if you didn't want that, then why put a horror film on?... exactly.
I'm giving this film a 4/10, because I believe it's better than the first film. Though I still wouldn't recommend this to anyone, because it really is just plain crap and it will waste your time and laugh in your face afterwards, so I do highly suggest you avoid this crap and the many other sequels. That's the right thing to do. Also, 4/10 is a very generous rating for this film and any other Friday 13th film, seriously, it's the truth. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, have a guess what came out the very next year...oh yes, you guessed it: Another crappy, unoriginal and boring sequel, a 'film' that I gave a big fat 1/10, which I also did with the rest of this boring and tiresome franchise.
