Dracula Untold review

Posted : 9 years, 6 months ago on 8 November 2014 09:21

I have to say the title says it all since nobody has thought to tell this story in cinema. There are several Game of Thrones actors in this which tells you what the casting director likes. Luke Evans was made to play Dracula. He is brutal, badass, and just plain cool. The battles are insanely cool and are a constant presence. It's always interesting to see someone discovering their powers especially when they aren't aware of the full extent. The acting here is pretty good particularly Luke Evans and Charles Dance. I swear I got chills throughout this especially near the end. I hope they make a sequel because I would love to see more of this Dracula! This movie was just so exciting for me. I highly recommend it for lovers of vampire and Dracula lore. I really don't understand all the reviews saying this is slow or boring. It's a non-stop action packed origin story with good actors and an interesting look at a story I thought was a beat horse.

An average movie

To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from this flick but since Nick, my step-son, was quite eager to check it out, we did end up watching the damned thing in the movie theater when it was released. Well, it wasn't really good, I'm afraid. Apparently, Universal is or was planning a cinematic universe like Marvel did with the MCU, except that it would involve all their famous monsters. Honestly, I really wonder if it is all going to happen but apparently they are already planning a reboot of 'The Mummy' which would include Dracula to link those movies together. Anyway, coming back to our main feature, I think they really chose the wrong angle though. Indeed, in this version, Dracula was actually a rather nice fellow, some kind of noble prince who just want to protect his family and his people from the evil Turks (it is actually funny to point out that Turkey didnโ€™t even exist at the time but anyway...). While it was definitely a different approach, it would have been however much more fun to have a main character who was truly evil, a blood-thirsty monster planning to rule over the world. Unfortunately, instead, they gave us a rather underwhelming origin story which was rather tedious and, as a result, I donโ€™t think this movie is really worth a look.
