Do the Right Thing review

Posted : 7 years, 9 months ago on 11 July 2016 05:55

This is the best film by Spike Lee. It is one of my favorite stories that realistically portrays the neighborhood of Brooklyn. Beautiful shots, editing, acting, screenplay, and memorable characters.

It has been well over a decade since I have seen this movie, in what was my first and will be my only time. One of the most overpraised movies there is, this features absolutely no redeeming characters and a horrible message. I am usually pretty open-minded when my husband and I watch movies, but this would be one that I refuse to watch again! Out of 10 stars: 1

My all time fave film. Weirdly enough, I don't really like Spike Lee's films but this one is a masterpiece. All the characters are memorable and their interplay is fantastic.

A great classic

By now, I have seen about 2/3 of the movies directed by Spike Lee and even though I used to be a huge fan of his work in the 90โ€™s, it has been a while since he made something that really impressed me (for example, the recent โ€˜Oldboyโ€™ remake was rather pathetic). Still, I always had a weak spot for Spike Lee's movies, there was a time when he was one of the best American directors and this movie was and still is definitely his masterpiece. To be honest, it has been a while since I saw it and I should definitely re-watch it at some point but the damned thing definitely had a massive impact on me. Indeed, even though it is a rather simple story, there were so many layers, I thought it was just fascinating and I think it is one of the strongest socially conscious movies I have ever seen. Pretty much like Roger Ebert, I'm really amazed that such an important movie was at the time not even nominated for the Best Picture Academy award. Anyway, I think it is a great classic and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you are interested in Spike Leeโ€™s work.ย
