Adam Sandler at his worst

Posted : 8 years, 8 months ago on 5 September 2015 01:46

I have no idea what I was thinking when I decided to watch 'Click'. (I'm not sure why I've seen so many Adam Sandler movies, period; I've certainly never watched one *just* to see him!)

'Click' is based around a MODERATELY entertaining premise. The basic plot goes something like this: Sandler's character, a well-meaning yet neglectful father and husband, for some silly reason goes to Bed, Bath & Beyond one night; while in the store, he encounters a mad scientist (played amusingly-if-predictably by Christopher Walken) who for some even sillier reason gives Sandler a magic remote control that acts as a sort of time machine.

Naturally, Sandler's character has a great time using the remote to control different people and situations in his oh-so-busy life -- until things spiral out of control, and the remote suddenly takes on a life of its own, and begins to control HIM!

The movie started out... okay, but it quickly turned into an unfunny mess of extremely juvenile humor mixed with some laughable attempts at seriousness (with a very special message about the importance of family, I guess, being the underlying theme).

With a different cast, and minus the childish so-called humor, it might have turned out better. Instead, 'Click' is even stupider than most Adam Sandler movies. It's not even "good" stupid; the movie was actually a little boring -- although I did manage to make it to the dumb ending, which was not only lame but cheap (*spoiler alert* it was all a dream; seriously? did it take 4 minutes to come up with that, or 5?)

To elaborate more on the juvenile humor -- well, let's just say that the scene where Sandler's character uses his magic remote to "freeze" his "mean" boss (played by David Hasselhoff -- *snicker*) so he can get revenge in a very disgusting manner might be the lowest point in both Sandler's AND Hasselhoff's careers. Which, for those two, is saying a lot.

What a waste of a Netflix stream this ridiculous movie turned out to be! (I know; I should have expected as much.)

On a positive note -- at least Sean Astin was much more tolerable in his thankless role here than in his previous onscreen appearance with Sandler, the not-great-but-otherwise-far-superior-to-this-movie '50 First Dates'. (2/10)

This remont control makes you think how will your life looks like if you can get one!

An average movie

Honestly, I don’t really hate any actors or actress but, I have to admit it, Adam Sandler really gets on my nerves. By now, somehow, I have managed to watch more than 20 of his movies and most of them were pretty pathetic. With this in mind, I wasn’t expecting much with this flick, even though, at least, the premise had some potential. Unfortunately, as usual with Sandler, the execution was just lame. First of all, when you think about it, they barely used the concept and Sandler doesn't really do much with this remote and, basically, in the second half of the movie, he only fast-forwards his life and that's it. Eventually, Adam Sandler has done much worse since then, this flick doesn’t belong to his worst features and the concept was at least intriguing but I thought it was just terribly lazy and underwhelming. To conclude, I thought it was a very forgettable movie but it didn't stop Adam Sandler in his winning streak (indeed, it was somehow another success at the box-office and at least until 2010, it was Sandler’s highest grossing film at the worldwide box office.) but, even though the whole thing was rather harmless, I still don’t think it is really worth a look.

One to fast forward!

The simple choices you make in life, creates the life you'll live. So what bits would you choose to fast forward through or even slow-mo if given the choice? Those are the types of decisions that Michael Newman (Adam Sandler) must make when he obtains a truly universal remote control. From the trailer, I had expected a humorous (well at least an Adam Sandler) movie, but the laughs are very few and far between, what this movie did have was a traditional 'family and love should come before career/work' tale. This type of movie has been done many times before in films such as Family Man, It's a Wonderful Life and even Scrooge. This movie isn't a Dicken's classic, but thankfully its also is not as strained as Family Man. Worth a watch on TV, but don't waste money on getting it on DVD.

Agree with Scott - a 21st Century 'It's A Wonderful Life' - a tale still worth telling - even if you probably get to see the Frank Capra film every Christmas anyway! - and at no point did I want to fast-forward (sorry!) the film though feel it could have made more of the remote control idea and technology generally.

I think I thought this was better than it actually is. At first I just loved it because of Adam Sandler, I mean anything with him is hillarious right? But not exactly a great movie.. though I have to say that Christopher Walken was great in this movie, oh and same with Kate Beckinsale. Oh yeah and The Hoff was pretty awesome as well.

a movie that ends the moment you eject the dvd. Adam Sandler is a poor actor and should stick to slapstick.

It's a Wonderful Click?

The film seems to be a remake of It's a Wonderfull Life. A couple of very funny moments, but no classic.
