An average movie

To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much from this flick but since there was a decent cast, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, it turned out to be Dax Sheppard’s most ambitious directorial effort so far, I’ll give him that, but the damned thing still turned out to be pretty weak, I’m afraid. First of all, I remember watching the TV-show when I was a kid but it was far from being one of my favorites back then and to make a modern adaptation for the silver screen seemed rather misguided. Basically, that’s the huge downside of Christopher Miller and Phil Lord’s success with their adaptation of ‘21 Jump Street’. Now, the studios believe that they can adapt any lame and/or outdated old TV-show as long as they give it some kind of R-rated comedic edge. In this case, at least, I did like the fact that Michael Peña played his character straight and it was not a bad idea that Dax Sheppard’s character was some rookie but they gave this guy just too much lame sh* to deal with. Obviously, it was supposed to be funny but it was just too much and, right form the start, it was more annoying than actually entertaining. Another problem was that the story was too generic and, to make things worse, they managed to make this generic plot also just too convoluted at the same time. There were also a couple of scenes which were just non-sensical like when one of the bad guys managed to have a cop jump from a helicopter to kill himself. I thought it was also rather weird that Dad Sheppard would ask Kristen Bell, his own wife, to show up in a few rather gratuitous sexy scenes. Anyway, to conclude, even though I was expecting something even worse, it was still rather lame and you should probably avoid it.
