A very lame movie

Posted : 13 years, 4 months ago on 7 January 2011 01:42

I wasn't expecting much from this movie but, somehow, I still ended up watching the damned thing. To be honest, I wonder why I even bothered and I guess the many (and probably) only reason was because there was a decent cast involved ( Kristy Swanson, Donald Sutherland, Paul Reubens, Rutger Hauer, Luke Perry, Hilary Swank, David Arquette, Ben Affleck, Alexis Arquette, Seth Green, Ricki Lake). Anyway, the whole thing turned to be really lame... I don’t know, apparently,  Joss Whedon claimed that they completely ruined his vision and 5 years later, he would launch another version as a TV show which would turn out to quite successful. To be honest, I never really understood the appeal of this TV show but this early version was deservedly a commercial and critical failure.  Anyway, I thought it was just a terrible movie. Even the great Donald Sutherland couldn't save this mess. On the positive side, you could see Ben Affleck in a (very) small part and there was even Hilary Swank but she is far from her Academy award winning parts... To conclude, I didn’t care for this movie at all, it was completely underwhelming and it is definitely not worth a look.

Buffy the movie

Posted : 17 years ago on 30 April 2007 11:06

I recently sat down to watch this movie again (have no idea how many times I have seen it by now!). While the movie and the TV series have very little in common, both are enjoyable for different reasons.

The movie (which came before the series) is entertaining, funny, and---if you keep it separate in your mind from the show---a good story (written by Joss Whedon). The story isn't as good as other material written by Joss Whedon...and if you do compare it to the show, there is a lot that is different between the movie and the beginning of the series---but, those differences are easily overlooked by any fan.

The Buffy movie is funny, decently acted (not high caliber quality acting, to be sure), and decently produced.

This movie also has quite a cast of actors, including Kristy Swanson, Luke Perry, Paul Reubens, Rutger Hauer, David Arquette, Hilary Swank, and Donald Sutherland.
