Bubble (2005) Reviews

Honestly, it has been a while since Steven Soderbergh has made something really amazing but his works still remains really interesting. Furthermore, if I recall it correctly, this movie was chosen by Roger Ebert as one of the best movies coming out in 2005, so I was definitely eager to watch this flick. Eventually, it turned out to be one of the most experimental movies directed by Soderbergh and it turned out to be a blessing and a curse. Indeed, it is a really realistic, almost documentary-like thriller (or is it a drama?!? I'm not sure...). The acting was provided by some unknowns, I guess amateurs but they were actually really good and perfectly matched the directing style. The main issue for me was that there was barely anything going on during the whole thing and there was always some distance between the viewers and the characters, you never get the chance to learn them, their feelings or they thoughts. To conclude, in my opinion, it is a flawed but still very interesting and original experimental flick and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
