Bridget Jones's Baby Reviews

When I first heard about this movie, I had some serious doubts about the damned thing. Indeed, it seemed to be a desperate attempt from Renée Zellweger to comeback into the limelight (she hadn't released anything for the least 6 years). At some point, I was in fact supposed to see it in the movie theater with my wife on our wedding day but she didn't feel up to it on that day. Eventually, we still ended up watching it together for free on Popcorn only a month later which was maybe just as well because my wife didn't apparently like it much. I wonder what bothered her because I thought it turned out to be actually a decent watch after all. I mean, sure, it was nothing amazing whatsoever but I had such low expectations before watching the damned thing that it didn't take much to at least partially satisfy me. Furthermore, compared to the really idiotic 2nd installment, you can't argue that this movie was at least a slight improvement. Indeed, in my opinion, the story was predictable but fairly entertaining and the characters were fairly well written. I think it was also a blessing that Hugh Grant that didn't come back because, otherwise, we would have ended up for the 3rd time around with the very same love triangle which would have been rather tedious. In fact, it's too bad that Bridget Jones keeps ending up in such love triangles in each movie and it would have been nice if the writers could finally come up with something else. Finally, the only weird thing about this movie was how much Renée Zellweger has physically changed. Seriously, she was barely recognizable and I'm not talking about the fact that she got older, I'm talking about the fact that she really looked like someone else which was rather sad. Anyway, to conclude, even though it was not really great, I thought it was actually a decent watch and I think it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
