An interesting failure

Posted : 13 years, 3 months ago on 7 February 2011 02:59

Basically, it is one of those movies which, even though I know the whole thing was flawed, it was still quite fascinating and I was still rather fascinated somehow. Indeed, it did look really gorgeous, the directing was indeed quite amazing and Nicole Kidman gave a very a good perfomance and so did the rest of the cast. The story was really fascinating so what went wrong ? I think the main issue is that they tried too much to rationalize the plot, to rationalize something completely impossible so you ended up with this unsatisfactory ending. Also, after rewatching it, I noticed that the main focus was on the mood, which was great by the way, but as a result, you get the feeling that the whole thing is just about mood and no substance whatsoever. I mean, if you think about it for a few minutes, the whole thing was completely preposterous and that's why it was quite fascinating but it makes also it really difficult to sell it to the viewers and, in my opinion, they actually failed. Still, in spite these flaws, it had really some potential and I still think it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

Birth review

Posted : 16 years, 10 months ago on 8 July 2007 07:00

Remember the movie โ€œSixth Sense โ€œโ€“ well โ€œBirthโ€ is a bit like it, trough the plot is different of course- and so are the actors. In Six Sense we have two stars Bruce Willis and Haley Joel Osment, while in โ€œBirth โ€œwe have Nicole Kidman and Cameron Bright ( who is actually a pretty good actor judging by his filmography ) . The acting was fine โ€“ and the only think that I didnโ€™t like was the scene at the theater, when for like 30 seconds or more I was watching the face of Nicole Kidman โ€“ I got what the director was trying to emphasize in that scene , but 10 seconds or so would have been just enough. Birth is a good Mystery film, because it really keeps you interested in the story. It is full of symbolic of life and dead and has a lot of meaningful scenes. I was surprised to see that is has an R rating for sexuality โ€“ as there is just one sex scene, fairly short and honestly the movie would have been even better if it wasnโ€™t in it. The soundtrack was good โ€“ made of classic music and suspense โ€“ typical for this genre โ€“ trough I felt that some scenes could use some more music on the background.
