An average movie

Posted : 4 years, 7 months ago on 17 September 2019 08:32

I wasnโ€™t really sure what to expect from this flick but since there was a decent cast involved and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, to be honest, I actually think that this story had some potential and I really wonder how it all went down in reality. Unfortunately, Scott Derrickson took the most generic approach possible which made the whole thing at best only mildly entertaining and at worst rather silly to watch. I mean, I have to admit that the mood was decent enough and there were some spooky scenes but the makers clearly never really had the ambition to go beyond that which was rather disappointing. Concerning the cast, Joel McHale and Sean Harris were fine in their respective parts but, unfortunately, Eric Bana was actually rather weak here. I mean, I always had a weak spot for this actor but his performance in this movie was just so wooden. On the other hand, you could argue that he couldnโ€™t help it if his character was rather poorly written but I still think that he didnโ€™t do much with this character. Anyway, to conclude, in spite of its flaws, I have to admit that it was still watchable but I will probably completely forget about it the very next day.

Deliver Us from Evil review

I thought this looked pretty interesting and a unique new idea of the typical possession. Scott Derrickson is no stranger to horror movies let alone of the possession type. Although of his films I have seen so far only Sinister was enjoyable. It has a pretty decent cast which gives it some promise, but then again a good cast can only do so much if poor directing is involved. Now people this movie clearly states it is inspired by actual events, but that doesn't necessarily mean that those events are adapted in this film (which they aren't as this is a fictional case). I have to say the zoo seen was pretty cool to see and it was actually pretty creepy. There is some really messed up stuff throughout this that I haven't seen done before that really kept me hooked. The jump scares are really good in this and actually have been getting me pretty good. There is actually some pretty wicked fight scenes although only a few of them throughout since it's a horror film. I have to say Butler is actually my favorite character in this. The suspense is great. It's definitely a must watch for fans of possession movies. I thought that there were some interesting elements throughout that I can't explain as they are vital to the plot, but I do say this is one of my favorite possession movies.
