After a soldier learns ideas of male/female dualism from his effeminate friend, he searches for his eternal female, the Anima. He flashes back to past relationships, and has post-industrial age visions of a woman who is part sewing machine. He falls in love with a woman he sees in a photo, but when they meet she is prejudiced against soldiers, and he must try to win her.
