All the King's Men Reviews

I remember it very well, before this movie was released, there was a huge buzz about it. It happens sometimes, you know, that even before anyone has seen a single frame, a movie already manages to build up some buzz and, in this case, with such a great cast (Sean Penn, Jude Law, Anthony Hopkins, Kate Winslet, Mark Ruffalo, Patricia Clarkson, James Gandolfini, Jackie Earle Haley), it was quite understandable. Eventually, in spite of these good promises, when it was released, it got some pretty tepid reviews and it turned out to be a flop. Still, with a cast like this, I still wanted to check it out. And indeed, it turned out to be a rather underwhelming feature. I mean, all those great actors gave some decent performances, especially Sean Penn who was really impressive as usual. Furthermore, the material was very good and you could feel that there was a very good movie there, hidden somewhere. Unfortunately, the whole thing was somehow a mess, I think it was poorly written and I didn't really care about the story or any of the characters involved. Anyway, to conclude, it is not a bad movie, some elements were actually pretty decent but, in spite of its great potential, it remained pretty average and rather disappointing.
