Makori now brings this expertise to i24News' flagship show “ClearCut with Michelle Makori”, an insightful, straightforward take on the top global political and economic stories with an emphasis on the U.S. and the Middle East. The show broadcasts live from New York Monday to Friday 7:00pm to 8:00pm EST and is available on various cable providers across the USA, Europe and the Middle East.
Makori was recruited in late 2016 to set-up the U.S. division of i24News and helped launch the live broadcast operations in February of 2017.
Makori joined i24 NEWS from CGTN (China Global Television Network) where she was the New York-based anchor and producer of “Global Business America”, CGTN’s flagship global economic and business news show. Makori was a key member of the team that launched CGTN’s U.S. based global English Channel in 2011.
Prior to joining CGTN, Makori was a reporter with CNN Money and an anchor and reporter for Bloomberg TV.
Makori joined Bloomberg TV in 2005 as the World and National news anchor during the morning prime time programs. She also reported and produced the arts and culture show “Muse” and was later the US business and finance lead anchor during the Asian opening bell hours.
Before joining Bloomberg TV and moving to New York in 2005, Makori was one of the main anchors and producers for SABC Africa Television, based in Johannesburg South Africa and broadcasting throughout the African Continent.
Makori has interviewed heads of state, CEOs of Fortune 500 companies and other leaders in politics, business and entertainment.
Born in Israel, raised in South Africa and now a proud American citizen, Makori speaks five languages and brings a truly global perspective.
Makori also brings Wall Street experience to her financial news coverage, having received her FINRA financial adviser license (Series 7) and having worked with The Beryl Consulting Group, GFI and currently with Context Capital Partners and Context Summits.
Makori holds a Post Graduate Honors Degree in Media Studies and Journalism (with distinction), and a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Law and Psychology, both from South Africa’s University of the Witwatersrand. She also graduated top of her class from South Africa’s Damelin Business School. Her accolades include winning the Harambee African Reporter of the Year Award for her work on micro-lending enterprises. She was also voted one of the “30 Most Outstanding Women” by Cosmopolitan magazine (South African Edition) and one of the “Sexiest Women in the World” by FHM magazine (South African Edition).
Makori enjoys traveling, reading, theatre and improv comedy, biking and ballroom dancing.
