Michael Wilson was an American screenwriter who was blacklisted by the Hollywood film studios during the era of McCarthyism for being a communist. His writing credits include "It's a Wonderful Life" (1946), "A Place in the Sun" (1951), "5 Fingers" (1952), "Friendly Persuasion" (1956), "The Bridge on the River Kwai" (1957), "Lawrence of Arabia" (1962), "The Sandpiper" (1965), "Planet of the Apes" (1968) and "Che!" (1969). Wilson also served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps during World War II.
