Martin Maxa, real name Ivan Varga, (* March 15, 1961, Most) is a Czech singer, guitarist, composer, painter, presenter, occasional actor; a qualified physical education and mathematics teacher and a former competitive swimmer.
He attended a gymnasium in Teplice, then first studied architecture, but graduated from the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport at Charles University in Prague, where he received a master's degree. He attended a gymnasium in Teplice, then first studied architecture, but graduated from the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport at Charles University in Prague, where he received a master's degree. After completing his university studies, he worked briefly as a physical education and mathematics teacher. He is a founding member of the band Náhodná sešlost, which still accompanies him; he also owns the property that used to house the Pijonýr music club and is currently building a hotel complex. He performed in the musical The Three Musketeers and the multimedia musical Naháči. He currently plays in the theater performance Kšanda.
In addition to music, he devotes himself to his other hobby, which is painting. He established himself with his paintings before he did in the field of popular music. He achieved his greatest success in Germany.
He received the Skokan Roko award in the Zlatý slavík poll for 2000, and in 2001 he came in 3rd place in the Singer of the Year category in the same poll. His biggest hits at the time were the songs C'est la vie, Ráno v ulicích, Nabojníce, JE to prostý, Pomalý koně, Zimostráz, and a duet with Helena Vondráčková called Deja vu. Alongside Vondráčková, he also played a small role in the comedy Kameňák 2 and later appeared in the sequel Kameňák 4.
In 2004, he received a two-year probation for defending Missis finalist Gabriela Tauberestová, who was being threatened by her boyfriend.
From 2005, he co-hosted and sang on the show Politické harašení until its cancellation in 2006.
In 2013, he became a supporting presenter for the show Prominenti on TV Barrandov. He alternated hosting the show with Petra Černocká and Monika Marešová.
