Marion Bell was a highly acclaimed light opera singer of the 1940s. Though she spent her entire career on-stage (but for two film appearances), it was MGM filmmaker Robert Z. Leonard who discovered her singing at age 15 and was so impressed that he decided to oversee her training and career. He signed her to MGM and she was sent on a vaudeville tour with the Marx Brothers. She made her film debut (it was uncredited) in A Night at the Opera (1935) and can be seen shoving her way through a crowd to get to the phone so she could call Aunt Minnie in the famous stateroom scene.
