Born near Mumbai, 19-year-old Maple Batalia was an aspiring actress and attending Simon Fraser University in Surrey (B.C. Canada) when she was shot and killed as she walked to her car in the parkade at SFU Surrey Campus. She had previously graduated from Enver Creek Secondary and was hoping to be a doctor. Her ex-boyfriend, Gurjinder Dhaliwal, was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to her murder.
