Malcolm Browne was an American journalist and photographer, best known for his award-winning photograph of the self-immolation of Buddhist monk Thích Quảng Đức in 1963. Browne's career in journalism began when he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was assigned to the Pacific edition of the "Stars and Stripes", where he worked for two years. He later served as a war correspondent in Vietnam and for the Gulf War.
