Rizer’s modeling career began somewhat serendipitously when her high school graduation photo attracted attention in her community, prompting her mother to send it to modeling agencies. After initially planning to attend college, Rizer decided to pursue modeling full-time, soon catching the attention of Italian Vogue photographer Steven Meisel. Her first major editorial, a 20-page couture spread in Vogue Italia in 1997, launched her into the fashion elite. By 1999, she graced the cover of American Vogue alongside Kate Moss and appeared again in 2000 with Carmen Kass and Angela Lindvall. She became one of the most sought-after models of her generation, walking for top fashion houses such as Prada, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Versace, Gucci, and Calvin Klein, and starring in major ad campaigns for Valentino, Céline, Balenciaga, Clinique, Gap, and more.

At the height of her career, Rizer earned millions, but tragedy struck again when her stepfather, John Breen, who had been managing her finances, gambled away and embezzled much of her earnings. He was later convicted of grand larceny, leaving Rizer financially devastated. She took a break from modeling to rebuild her life, later returning to the industry in the late 2000s. Her comeback included a L’Officiel Singapore cover, runway appearances for Louis Vuitton and Michael Kors, and new fashion campaigns that highlighted her resilience and timeless appeal.

Beyond fashion, Maggie Rizer found happiness in her personal life. She married Alex Mehran, a real estate developer, in 2010, and together they have four children: Alexander, Quinnlann, Cecilia, and Edward. She has continued her advocacy for HIV/AIDS awareness and also supports Operation Smile.
