Born Fershgenet Melaku and raised in Washington, D.C., LoLa Monroe is an American rapper, actress, and entrepreneur. She changed her name in 2007 to honor Marilyn Monroe, an icon she felt she identified with. Monroe started modeling in 2006, appearing in magazines and as a hip-hop model for artists like Kanye West and 50 Cent. She retired from modeling in 2007. Monroe released her first mixtape, Boss B**h's World, in 2009 and her first single, "Overtime", in 2010.
