Review by Brittany Adams
Rebecca Minkoff couldn't have chosen a more Resort-appropriate inspiration than Ibiza. While she's admittedly never traveled to the Mediterranean vacation spot, Minkoff explained that she sought to channel the "dichotomy between the island's crazy nightclub scene and its bohemian coast." Keying into this cultural reference point, the contemporary designer updated easy, breezy summer staples in playful patterns and energetic colorways. Hitting upon one of this season's emerging trends, Minkoff's opening outfit paired a whimsical polka-dotted blouse with complementary novelty jeans (a category that's been flourishing since #RMDENIM launched nearly a year ago). She continued to feature of-the-moment spots on airy chiffon separates and maxi dresses that boasted alluring off-the-shoulder necklines; she said she wanted "a messed-up polka dot so it didn't seem too preppy." Elsewhere, Minkoff riffed on the idea of fishing nets with flirty mesh skirts and basic cotton tanks. "You can wear them without a bra underneath if you're going for a Rihanna look," she joked. There was also a floaty latticework number that nicely encapsulated the collection's free-spirited attitude. Other youthful highlights here included sporty shorts and fun coveralls that felt fresh in tangerine-hued suede, as well as a flattering wide-leg jumpsuit cut from stretchy white crepe that was similar to the black style Minkoff wore to this week's CFDA Awards.

The new range of covetable accessories (among them grommeted takes on classic Boston totes and tomboyish tasseled flats) completed the laid-back looks. This lineup had commercial appeal in spades, which should bode well for the savvy designer come delivery time this fall, when she'll also be opening her first-ever brick-and-mortar shop on Greene Street in New York's Soho.
